Mental Health (TW)
What is Mental Health?
Mental Health is something that makes someone "different" from one another. It is something that makes one unique. As a person who suffers from Mental Health issues, it can be hard to cope with them. There are days you think things that you never thought you would think, and only people who have mental illnesses can really understand that in my opinion. You have to have the “difference” to be able to understand things. I suffer from Anxiety, Depression, and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Now OCD has different meanings. In my opinion, there are Physical and Mental OCD.
What is Physical OCD?
Physical OCD is when you have to place things in a certain order, you need to keep checking if you locked the door, you panic because you may have left the oven on and keep going back in your house or the kitchen to check it. Those are Physical OCD traits. They still have to do with the mind, but there is something that you “need” to do.
What is Mental OCD?
Mental OCD is when you can’t stop thinking about one thing or another. Your mind is in a mess and you feel like you need to think/act a certain way. An example could be that you thought of hurting another, now you can not get that thought out of your mind. You will just keep thinking about it until something else comes up, or you get yourself out of the zone.
How to deal with OCD
Both Mental and Physical OCD are very hard to deal with. I started with Physical OCD, I always wanted things a certain way, for a while, I even had to eat, drink, and breath a certain way. It got in the way of everyday life opportunities. Over time I stopped having as many Physical OCD traits, but you guessed it, I got my Mental OCD traits instead. They popped up out of the blue one day, and I thought of hurting my self/another, for the whole rest of the day, all I could do was think about that. I later told my parents and got a therapist. Getting my therapist helped me a lot. She was able to make me realize, that it was all in my brain and that I was not gonna hurt myself, or anyone else. I always used the “what if” card on her, but she always told me, “dont use the if the monster, as it is… it, just means you are unsure, but you have control over your body and actions, it does not have control over you.” I still love that saying to this day. So if you ever feel like there may be a chance you have OCD, try and get a therapist so they can help you cope with it, there is no fixing it, it will always be there with you, you just need to find a way to deal with it. Another alternative could be a prescription from your psychiatrist. If you dont have one, your therapist could probably help you get one, I suggest one, medicine helps a lot. But remember, dont only rely on the medicine, make sure your working with the medicine to improve.
