Every home the Beatles lived in 1960-1970- Part 1
John Lennon
okay i researched this myself- there’s a pretty high likelihood i’m missing something here lol so pls let me know if I am and I will update the list!
1. Mendips (1946-1962)
251 Menlove Avenue, Liverpool
(no explanation needed)
2. Gambier Terrace (Jan-July 1960)
3 Gambier Terrace, Liverpool
This is John’s college flat he shared with Stu, Rod Murray, and a few others. I think two girls actually lived with them for a bit. I think John and Stu shared a room, the two girls shared a room, and Rod was lucky enough to get his own? I need to fact check that. I believe he split time between here and Mendips, never fully moving out and often running home to have Mimi do his laundry or cook a meal.
Hilariously, in 1960 The People magazine ran an article called Beatnik Horror basically criticizing the lives of bohemian young college beatniks of the time. They interviewed some of John’s friends and took this photo for the article from his apartment lmao. (he was with Mimi at the time). I believe Alan Williams is in the photo.
3. Falkner Street (Aug 1962-1963)
36 Falkner Street, Liverpool
Brian Epstein flat John and Cyn moved into after their wedding! This is the apartment where Cynthia was pregnant and alone and going through it. 😭
4. Green Street (Summer - Fall 1963)
57 Green Street, Mayfair, London
Flat Brian got all 4 Beatles to share when they were in London! They were only there for summer/fall I believe. I bet it was fun though.
5. Emperors Gate (1963-July 1964)
13 Emperor’s Gate, Kensington, London
John and Cyn apartment in London.
6. Kenwood (July 1964- July 1968)
St. George’s Hill, Weybridge, London
We know it, we love it. John and Cyn’s lavish mansion out in the suburbs, about an hour drive from the city center. Beautifully decorated, with John’s infamous psychedelic eye pool and upstairs music room. “Daddy’s” room as Paul called it. What began as a glorious getaway ended up feeling like a prison for John, tucked away from the exciting, forward thinking rush of Swinging London that his Paul was engrossed with.
Many a night spent making music, smoking joints and watching TV.
The home Cynthia caught him in with Yoko. I believe there was an awkward overlap where Yoko and John lived here together, then they moved out? I need to check that.
7. Montagu Square (July-Oct 1968)
34 Montagu Square, London
I had never heard of it till this post by @torchlitinthedesert. Seems like it was a swinging place! John and Yoko rented it from Ringo, and this is where the drug bust occurred.
I think if I do Ringo I’ll learn more lore here.
8. Tittenhurst Park (1969-1971)
London Road, Ascot, Berkshire
Okay i’m sorry but I struggled to get an address here. Is this house really that posh? Well, it’s the lavish mansion he moved into with Yoko. Famous in its own right!
He moved to NYC in 1971, and famously never returned. He sold Tittenhurst to Ringo in 1973.
I did not include Hamburg accommodations or the ashram in India! I can maybe update to include those if you truly desire.
