Something I find very funny is the way Mimi used to refer to Paul. Apparently, she called him John's "little friend" to make fun of his lower class background. Which, of course, is a shitty thing to do.
But here’s the fun part.
In French, "little friend" translates either to "petit ami" or "petit copain." And you might think, "Alright Starry, what's your point? It's just the same thing translated, right?"
Not exactly.
Because in French, "petit ami" and "petit copain" can also mean… "boyfriend."
So technically, if you read a biography in French that mentions this nickname, it reads like Mimi is calling Paul John’s boyfriend.

John Lennon was born to Julia and Alfred Lennon. Julia was known as a free spirit, a fun woman, and a dear sister. She, although a fun and loving woman, was not fit to be a proper mother for her baby boy, John. When he was a little boy, his aunt, Mimi, took him in. Mimi, unlike Julia, was very proper, she believed in good disciple and wanted to raise John to be a good boy. Of course we know, he wasn’t, but she still loved him as her own. Julia was hit by a car when John was a teenager, he was very hurt, but for the rest of life, he called his auntie Mimi every week. The sisters were two mummies for John. He loved them both dearly.
2. Mary Mohin McCartney
James ‘Paul’ McCartney was born to Mary Mohin McCartney and James McCartney. Mary was a loving mother and delivery nurse who worked very hard to support her family and many others. Paul and his little brother, Michael, loved their mother very much. She was a kind woman and often travelled on her bike to homes to deliver babies, no matter the weather. When Paul was a teenager, Mary had chest pains but the doctors sent her home. She had breast cancer, and once she was finally treated, she had a surgery, but died from an embolism. Paul remembered his mother forever, she helped inspire one of the last Beatles songs, “Let it Be.”
3. Louise French Harrison
George Harrison was born to possibly the most supportive mother, Louise French Harrison, and father, Harold Harrison. Louise had four children, George being the youngest, and she loved and supported each of them extremely. All she wanted was for her children to be happy. George loved his mother very, very much. She was a funny woman, sometimes cheeky, there are photos of her sticking her tongue out at the camera—we see where George gets it from. Louise loved and supported George and his siblings: Louise (George’s elder sister), Harry and Peter, until the day she died—On Ringo Starr’s 30th birthday in 1970.
4. Elsie Gleave Starkey Graves
Richard Starkey, better known as Ringo Starr was born to Elsie Gleave Starkey and Richard Starkey I. Ringo’s father didn’t stick around very long, but his mum was there the whole way. She was a hardworking woman, as hard as it was, she supported herself and her son. Unfortunately, as a child, Ringo was very ill and was constantly in the hospital. She was always told he didn’t have any time, but she stood by her son, and he made it. She eventually remarried, when Ringo was a teenager, to Harry Graves, who unlike Ringo’s father was good to her, and the boy. She was supportive of her only son, and loved him very much. Elsie passed away in early 1987.

Looks like I wasn't done with the Lennonology excerpts! I found a couple of other themes of interest, and some misc ones from 1976-80, so I'll do all these over three posts. This first one looks at the relationship between John and his aunt Mimi between 1969 and 1980.
14 March 1969: John makes plans for a wedding on the way to see Mimi, and instructs everyone not to tell Mimi (the old refrain "Don't tell Mimi!"). Mimi recalls meeting Yoko for the first time.
_____________________________
26 November 1969: Mimi is very upset at John returning his MBE, and John is upset that she's upset:
_____________________________
6 March 1971: Mimi Gives Interviews. Topics include: John's portrait banished to a cupboard until he is a "good boy" again; her incredulity at the rift between John and Paul and talking to Paul on the phone about it; blaming Yoko and Linda for the rift; claiming that John would be chickenshit in an actual revolution and his political statements are merely Yoko ventroquilising him; and how John buys her expensive gifts whenever he's been "naughty".
_____________________________
20 August 1974: Mimi is summoned to London by Yoko (during the latter's UK visit where Paul says she asked him to bring a message to John, months after Paul had been in LA - one day I will stop banging on about Paul's Timeline That Makes No Sense, but today is not that day lol). Whether Yoko wanted to ask Mimi about getting back together with John is unclear, and Mimi says she left none the wiser.
_____________________________
19 December 1974: John invites Mimi to New York for the holidays, but she declines. Why? She knew John couldn't leave the US in this period because of his immigration troubles, why pass up the opportunity to see him, for the first time in years?
_____________________________
19 July 1975: John writes to his Aunt Mater, discussing family matters. He is concerned that the house he bought for his half-sisters Julia and Jackie is not being used by them, but is instead lived in by another relative. He recalls that, as a child/teen, he wanted Julia and Jackie to live with him ("for COMPANY!"), but Mimi didn't want them :(
_____________________________
9 October 1975: An overjoyed John calls Mimi to tell her about Sean's birth :) Mimi apparently has Opinions on the baby's name :/
_____________________________
6 January 1976: Upset about Mal Evans' recent death, John calls Mimi and talks for a long time. He tells her he plans to visit Britain that year, now that he has US residency, but doesn't end up doing so.
_____________________________
25 October 1976: Mimi intentionally "forgets" John's birthday. Why??? Was she mad at him for not visiting? Gah, that is mean, especially for someone like John who loved celebrating his birthday :(
_____________________________
22 April 1977: It didn't happen in 1976, but John tells Mimi he will visit in August 1977 - but it doesn't happen :(
_____________________________
21 October 1977: It seems John had said that he and Yoko and Sean would visit England around now, but while spending the summer in Japan, they changed their mind and sent Mimi a gift of a pearl necklace instead (though they hadn't informed her yet that they weren't coming). Also, recall Mimi's earlier comment about John sending her expensive gifts when he'd been "naughty" :/
_____________________________
10 November 1977: John finally tells Mimi that they won't be visiting after all. Mimi claims later to be relieved but that could be face-saving on her part. It's sad :(
_____________________________
20 January 1979: In a letter to his cousin Leila, John expresses anxiety about visiting Mimi in England, because he thinks it will be "the last time". I wonder why he thought that? She wasn't in poor health at the time, to my knowledge, and she ended up living until 1990.
_____________________________
9 April 1979: Mimi got wind of a rumour that John and Yoko had bought a Dakota apartment for Julian and calls John. He tells her that Julian is welcome to live with them but hadn't made plans to do so. So did he buy the extra apartment for Julian or not?
_____________________________
14 January 1980: John and Mimi have a phone call, where they have a mild bitchfest about Paul, lmao.
_____________________________
14 August 1980: Another phone call, John in a good mood, "ordering" his birthday and Christmas presents from Mimi :)
_____________________________
22 November 1980: In an interview, Yoko recalls that John has been making tea one way his whole life, thinking it was how Mimi taught him, but Mimi says she actually made tea the opposite way!
Veronica Papworth asks: Do the Beatles wear wigs? I can assure you that they are blessed with good heads of hair!
I am John's aunt and brought him up from a baby. He was the delight of my life. Even as schoolboys John, Paul and George avoided the clippers for as long as possible.
Ringo was brought into line when he joined the group: before that he was conventional.
