The Media and Child Casualty Reporting
For Palestinians, this has never only been a genocidal war on our homes, our families, and our children. It has also been a war on truth itself.
A report by The Intercept exposed how major Western media outlets covered Israeli and Palestinian deaths with completely different language, sympathy, and humanity.
The Intercept reviewed more than 12000 print articles and 5000 TV segments to check for biases on Israel-Palestine.
In The New York Times, “Israel’s right to defend itself” was invoked 99 times.
Palestine’s right to defend itself was mentioned only once.
On CNN and MSNBC, the phrase was used 755 times for Israel, and only 8 times for Palestinians.
When Israelis were killed, words like “slaughter” and “massacre” appeared repeatedly.
When Palestinians were killed, those same words disappeared from coverage altogether.
In Ukraine, the killing of 262 children was mentioned 4,223 times in the media.
In Palestine, more than 10,000 murdered children were mentioned only 3,632 times.
May the memory of our loved ones, our relatives, our friends, our neighbors, our children torn apart under the rubble, haunt every person who helped justify this horror with silence, distortion, and propaganda.
We are keeping the receipts. We remember every headline. Every lie. Every omission. Every attempt to erase us.
Those who dehumanized Palestinians, especially in Western media, will carry that shame forever.
