Barry McGuigan not sure whether Josh Taylor will enter WBSS tournament
[ad_1]
By Scott Gilfoid: Promoter Barry McGuigan isn’t saying whether Josh ‘The Tartan Tornado’ Taylor (13-0, 11 KOs) will enter the World Boxing Super Series (WBSS) light welterweight tournament to compete against talents like interim WBC light welterweight champion Regis Prograis (21-0, 18 KOs) after the way he had to struggle to beat 34-year-old former WBC 140 lb.

Shane McGuigan Expects Smith To Be Tougher Than Eubank Jr
[ad_1]
Trainer Shane McGuigan believes Liverpool’s Callum Smith will likely be a harder take a look at than Chris Eubank Jr when George Groves meets him within the closing of the World Boxing Super Series.
Groves efficiently defended his WBA crown, outsmarting Eubank Jr over twelve rounds at Manchester’s MEN Arena in February. Attention now turns to the unbeaten Smith, who laboured previous…

McGuigan double for Stenny relegates Queen's Park
Queen’s Park were relegated to League Two after Mark McGuigan’s brace helped Stenhousemuir set up a League One play-off final meeting with Peterhead.
McGuigan headed in Alan Cook’s cross to put the Warriors in front.
But Gerry McLaughlin levelled when he stooped and nodded in Ross Millen’s low delivery.
McGuigan rolled in off the post to notch his 23rd goal of the season after Harrison Paton’s fine pass as Stenny completed a 3-2 aggregate victory.
Stenhousemuir are seeking an immediate return to League One after relegation last year. Queen’s Park drop down to League Two following a couple of seasons in League One.
The Spiders’ Aidan Keena had hit the crossbar from 30 yards early on at Hampden before McGuigan opened the scoring.
McLaughlin’s first goal of the season brought the hosts level and it came from Millen’s low cross after Robbie Leitch had drawn a free-kick.
Millen later suffered a head injury and there was significant concern for the right-back as he received treatment for several minutes before he left the field on a stretcher and was taken to hospital.
Stenny’s winner was created brilliantly by Canadian Paton, with a fine through ball and equally good low finish in off the far post by McGuigan.
Post-match reaction:
Stenhousemuir manager Brown Ferguson: “It was a very tight game but I feel we deserved to get through to the final.
“McGuigan’s second goal was a brilliant finish given he’s been out with a rib injury. It was a great surging run by Harry Paton.
“Peterhead were the favourites for the league and we know we’re going into this week as the underdogs, but we’ve had a decent record against them.”
Queen’s Park manager Gus MacPherson: “We’ve lost out and we’re frustrated but we’ve got more to worry about in terms of the player in hospital.
“That’s where my thoughts are at the moment. He’s concussed.
“The ball’s hit him in the face at point blank range, so we’re concerned.”

McGuigan says Canelo Alvarez should receive lifetime ban
[ad_1] By Jeff Aranow: Former featherweight world champion Barry McGuigan believes Mexican star Saul Canelo Alvarez should receive nothing less than a lifetime ban from boxing for his two positive tests for the banned substance clenbuterol while training for his now canceled May 5 fight against IBF/IBO/WBA/WBC middleweight champion Gennady ‘GGG’ Golovkin. McGuigan points out that […] Boxing News…
