We bailed on the Match Party. I was doing okay, I was totally going to go and then they sent me a fucking catalog of kids. Like, just pages and pages of pictures of kids and a little snippet about them.
What the what, America? Is this really the best idea we have for how to make families? A literal catalog of, let's be honest, mostly children of color that us nice white people can sort through and pick out.
I can't. I just can't. I still feel awful thinking about how I'm complicit in the system that does this.
And that's why I married him
Tonight I told Ryan I thought we should do anything we can to make the kids at the Match Party like us. I suggested we choreograph an perform a hip hop dance routine.
Without missing a beat Ryan replied, "YES. To Motown Philly."\
Match Party Questions
Here are some questions to ask the children that Ryan and I brainstormed last night:
1. What are your three greatest strengths?
2. Why did you leave your last family?
3. Tell me about a time you faced a challenge and how you over came it.
4. Are you married to that hair color?
5. Are you 420 friendly? (and a follow up: Are you a cop? Because you have to tell me if you're a cop.)
6. If you were an animal, what animal would you be?
7. What's the longest time you've ever successfully played The Quiet Game?
8. How open are you to eating vegetables without being obnoxious about it?
9. When you're a teenager will you be more into rolling your eyes, listening to loud emo music in your bedroom angst or like, yelling "you're not my real parents I hate you" angst or both?
10. You don't like sports, do you?

Giving In
We are going to a Match Party at the end of the month. It's still unseemly but we've got to do something.
Match Party Misgivings
I think we're going to bail on the Match Party. I just can't get over feeling super gross about it.
Imagine being the kid who talks to a nice couple and gets all Annie about it and then they don't pick you and you can't stop wondering why.
I also have such ambivalent feelings about kids in general right now (I NEED A BABY! GET ME A BABY! GET THAT THING AWAY FROM ME! BABIES ARE THE WORST! I JUST WANT TO TRAVEL AND SLEEP IN!) that I don't want to lead anyone on. Leading kids on! That is yuck! I'm going to talk to Ryan.
