I think something that’s surprising about Fairy Tail is that Gray and Lucy occupy the same space of character archetype: fanservice. Yes generally all the women in the show are put into more fanservice-esqe situations but that’s for the audience.
Lucy and Gray are fanservice for the other characters. (Lucy more so because misogyny but that’s a different topic.)
They are constantly having their space invaded by other characters with no regard for their anatomy. (Natsu, Juvia, occasionally Cana for them both.)
We see both Lucy and Gray put into situations where their bodies are the main focus, AND they attract attention from other characters because of their looks/bodies. (Gray’s stripping, Lucy’s outfits.)
They are both pursued by other characters that had just met them because of their looks and/or actions. (Taurus, Loke at his introduction, the Vulcan was situational but I’m counting it, Sugarboy, both Edolas and Earthland, Cancer, Master Bob.)
