tipgiblets: First week of tour has been dope. #SadSummer #RadSummer
In band we're playing a Beatles Medley and I'm really excited about it!! We're also doing the Hunger Games soundtrack, so that'll be fun. I thank God for gifting me with this talent. I just love to play my clarinet.
It's just so sad about the county's budget cuts; so many teachers will be laid off, probably including my band director.
My band director, Mark Connell, has had such an influential impact on my life the past three years. He always says his class is "90% life and 10% music". And that is so true!! He always knows just what to say and really pushes me to be a better player. He's been teaching for 32 years so he's ready to retire and I'll be moving schools next year anyway but I just feel so bad for the 6th grade band because they're such a special group of kids. :((
We've just gotta keep praying this cut won't get passed.
Day 1: Name two of the most significant people in your life and explain why.
It's hard to choose the most significant people in my life - I believe that almost everyone I meet has changed my life, in some way or another. Â If I had to choose two people that have influenced me the most, and I am going to exclude my parents from this, they would be Mark Connell, my old band director, and Jeff Coffey, one of the assistant scout master from my old scout troop.
Mark Connell: Â He was one of those people who didn't really care what anyone else thought. Â He would constantly tell us that his class is 90% about life and 10% about music. Â I could talk for hours about his stories and the quotes he gave us. Â Pretty much, for the two years that he taught me, he taught me to become a better person. Â He gave me the tools to become outstanding, "to become successful, surround yourself with those who are better than you."
Jeff Coffey:  Before he joined my troop, I was considering leaving.  Nothing definitive, I just didn't like the direction that my troop was headed.  When he joined and began to lead the troop, he pushed me to try backpacking and other activities.  I loved it.  Because of Jeff, I had the opportunity to backpack at Philmont Scout Ranch in NM and canoe through Algonquin Provincial Park in Canada.  Without Jeff, I probably wouldn't enjoy hiking, backpacking, canoeing, camping, and many other outdoor activities nearly as much.
These are only two of the people who greatly influenced my life; I could easily name and talk about a dozen others without any trouble.
