It’s been a trainwreck from the beginning tbh. But the question is will s4 be the FUN kind of trainweck. The “fuck this, we give up” kind. Because if YES, I am a lot more interested.

Raven rolls her eyes, beckoning him closer with her free hand. “Can you fucking blame me?” she mutters. She’s tired, she’s stuck in actual fuck nowhere for no apparent reason, the person who’s supposed to be keeping tabs on her is currently looking at her like he’s never seen anything this likely to result in disaster... okay, that last bit could be fun...

“No,” Roan replies, still too damn formal for his own good.

The moment he’s in view, she starts running. In general, Raven does not run and it’s a damn hard thing to do with a bad leg and a floor-length skirt, but some things are worth breaking personal rules for. Things like boyfriends who have been gone for too long on unexplained trips to the actual middle of nowhere, for example.

He moves as well and they meet in the middle, crashing into each other and just lingering in each other’s arms for a few heartbeats before he tilts his head and gently presses his lips to hers. It’s sweet, or at least as sweet as they ever get, delicate and innocent and lasting until they both remember to breathe.

“Missed you,” she murmurs, again almost sweet.

“No problems while I was gone?”

“You worry too much. Other than how cold my bed was... quietest month I’ve had up here.”

Good thing number one about having a tiny girlfriend - she takes up basically no space in their bed (on the nights she’s even there at all, but that’s a completely separate mess that Lincoln is currently dealing with by completely ignoring).

Bad thing number one about tiny girlfriend - kissing her is sometimes not worth the effort.

1. What is your favorite fic you have under your belt?

OMG THAT’S LIKE ASKING ME TO PICK A FAVORITE CHILD, GAHHHHHH

Okay, well,The Scars That Show was the first fanfic I ever wrote, which makes it really special to me.  I came into the whole world of fandom and fic and shipping and everything basically via this show and Kabby, and I’d read some fic by then but not that much, so I kind of … didn’t really know the rules, I guess?  Or have any sense of, like, “you have to do things this way or that way”?  So I just wrote the story I wanted to write and hoped other people would like it.  And it was really gratifying when they did because it felt like tacit permission to just keep writing whatever I wanted and trust that the Kabby fandom would come along for the ride, wherever I took them, as long as I was writing the best thing I could and was doing justice to the characters.

Ireland is my favorite country and my Catholicism is really important to me, so Fields of Athenry was the first fic I wrote that came from like a really deeply personal place.  I’d never written an AU before but I had this Kane-as-Irish-priest thing I couldn’t get out of my head, and then it turned into this sprawling saga where I got to use all kinds of weird nerdy details like what the priest says during the Sacrament of Anointing and how bishop tribunals work and the topography of the Aran Islands.  If I could live inside any of these fics, I’m probably pic that one.  The clothes are better in The Seventh Heiress, but the landscapes are better here.  Also, this fic is my favorite AU Marcus, I think (with Scars a close second).

All of that being said, I think my hands-down favorite overall would have to be The Life You Make In the Ruins.  I’m really, really proud of that one.  It’s my favorite AU Abby, but it’s also I think some of my best writing (not just in fic, but overall).  It began life like 8 years ago as a novel I never finished, so I had bits and pieces of it floating around, but the story didn’t really begin to take shape until I was looking at it through the lens of Kane and Abby and then everything just clicked.  It’s also incredibly personal; the Scripture readings Abby picks for the funeral are the ones I chose for my mom’s funeral, and it’s set in the neighborhood where I grew up, and the Griffins’ house is my childhood house.  These aren’t details that necessarily mean anything to other people, but they keep me really emotionally grounded in the world while I’m writing it.  This is the one where the world felt most real to me.

2. What is your favorite snippet of dialogue?

UGH THAT’S SO HARD

Well, I’ve been asked this before and used the prologue of Ruins so I’m going to go in a totally different direction and choose Farmer Kane from Scars because I’m so feelingsy about that headcanon. 

He slept without nightmares, soothed by the soft bubbling murmurs of the stream and the bright, lovely fragrance of flowers.  Oh, he could love it here.  He could do this.  He could make this his life.  Later, before the weather changed, he would build a more permanent shelter. He could do that. He could build himself a house. He could live here, close to the soil, where things were quiet and simple. He could watch things grow. Somebody had to do it. Somebody had to be the first one to put down roots in the ground. And Marcus Kane had been the one who planted the Eden Tree.

She didn’t want his words. She didn’t want his heart. But there were other ways that he could show her that he loved her.

4. Do you prefer writing long or short fics?

Long.  I have a hard time keeping things brief.  That’s a real skill.  You have to be so meticulous and intentional with your words to write, like, a 1000-word ficlet that tells a complete emotional journey.  But I always want to go into detail.  I want to know what everyone’s wearing.  I want us to go inside Kane and Abby’s thoughts and memories and history.  I want to flesh out the world with tons of other supporting characters.  So everything ends up starting out as a one- or two-shot and then ending up like 75k words.

6. What’s the detail you wait on bated breath for readers to notice?

I think my favorite teeny-tiny detail I ever put into a fic that I was hoping someone would notice (and @brittanias did!) was in The Seventh Heiress, where in Kane’s POV chapters he calls her Mrs. Griffin, and then Abigail, and then - after they sleep together - Abby, but in Bellamy’s POV chapters he always calls her Mrs. Griffin.
