चमोली जिले में चीन सीमा से जोड़ने वाला मलारी हाईवे दसवें दिन भी ठप है। वहीं कुमाऊं में टनकपुर-चंपावत के बीच स्वांला में पहाड़ से भारी मलबा आने से सड़क बंद हो गई है। वही नीती घाटी में कोहरा होने के कारण अभी तक मलारी में हेली रेस्क्यू शुरू नहीं हो पाया है। मलारी हाईवे पर चट्टान से फिलहाल पत्थरों का छिटकना बंद है। बीआरओ की जेसीबी मशीनें हाईवे को खोलने में जुट गई हैं।

मौके पर मौजूद जिला आपदा प्रबंधन अधिकारी नंद किशोर जोशी का कहना हैं कि नीती घाटी के ग्रामीणों की आवाजाही के लिए प्रभावित क्षेत्र में पैदल रास्ता भी बना लिया गया है। एसडीआरएफ और एनडीआरएफ की टीमें ग्रामीणों को सुरक्षित आवाजाही करा रहीं हैं। उनका कहना हैं कि यदि मौसम ने साथ दिया तो मंगलवार तक हाईवे को सुचारू कर लिया जाएगा। बद्रीनाथ हाईवे सुचारू है। रविवार रात को चमोली जनपद में बारिश हुई। हालांकि सोमवार को फिलहाल मौसम सामान्य बना हुआ है। चमोली जनपद में भूस्खलन से अभी भी सात संपर्क मोटर मार्ग अवरूद्ध हैं।

वहीं रविवार देर शाम तक बीआरओ ने नीती घाटी के 50 ग्रामीणों को पैदल रास्ते से आवाजाही कराकर गंतव्य को भेजा। हालांकि हाईवे बंद होने से नीती घाटी के 16 गांवों के करीब 400 ग्रामीण अभी भी अपने गांवों में ही कैद हैं। वहीं 10 दिन बाद मलारी हाईवे न खुलने के बाद नीति घाटी के ग्रामीणों ने जुलूस निकाला। जिसके बाद प्रदर्शनकारी तहसील परिसर में ठाकुर सिंह राणा ने आमरण अनशन शुरू कर दिया।

Four species of Genus Plasmodium are responsible for causing malaria in humans; these include Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium malariae and Plasmodium ovale. Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax are commonly the cause of malaria in India, however cases caused by the other two species have also been reported.

The infection spreads through the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito which is the vector for the disease. After the mosquito bites the person, the person becomes infected and the incubation period for the development of the disease in human beings is around ten to fourteen days in the case of all the Plasmodium species except Plasmodium malariae for which the incubation period is twenty eight to thirty days. The parasite produces intermittent fever which is termed as malaria.

Symptoms of Malaria

Febrile paroxysm which is followed by splenomegaly and anaemia are the typical clinical features of malaria.

Febrile Paroxysm: Febrile refers to fever and paroxysm refers to a sudden outbreak. This phase is further divided into three stages namely, the cold stage, hot stage and finally the sweating stage. The patient feels intensely cold and shivers uncontrollably during the cold stage. This is followed by the hot stage characterised by a high fever, headache (severe), nausea and vomiting. In the sweating stage, the fever stops and is followed by profuse sweating. The fever might return every third or fourth day depending on the species of the disease.

Anaemia: A microcytic or normocytic hypochromic type of anaemia develops after a few paroxysms due to the destruction of red blood cells that are parasitized.

Splenomegaly: The spleen becomes larger in size and is palpable on physical examination after a few paroxysms.

The most pathogenic of all the species of Plasmodium is Plasmodium falciparum. AN infection with Plasmodium falciparum can result in some complications like black water fever and pernicious malaria. In acute falciparum malaria due to heavy parasitisation, a life threatening complication known as pernicious malaria develops. Cerebral malaria (high fever, coma and paralysis), algid malaria (cold clammy skin leading to peripheral circulatory failure) and septicaemic malaria are the various manifestations of pernicious malaria.

Black water fever characterised by fever, haemolysis, renal failure and presence of haemoglobin in urine develops due to inadequate treatment of previous malarial infection with quinine. Due to these life threatening complications, it is imperative that appropriate and proper treatment for malaria is given once it is diagnosed. Diagnosis of Malaria

Treatment of Malaria

For acute malaria, Chloroquine is used for treatment. Mefloquine is utilised against chloroquine resistant strains as they have become increasingly common. For mefloquine resistant and multidrug resistant cases of malaria, Artemisinin and its derivatives are utilised as they are newer antimalarial drugs.
