One of the traditional things which is fast disappearing from our homes in Thekken Thiruvithamkoor ( South Travancore) is Malanni Murukku. I had specifically requested to bring some Cissampelos pareira leaves which grow wild in Kerala . Locally called Malanni or Malathangi( Shreyasi in Sanskrit) which literally means the one which can even take the load of a mountain. It is used for the treatment of a wide variety of ailments like rheumatism, malaria & even Parkinson's disease. This Kurukku is essentially coarsely ground rice , cooked along with some water, karipetti ( Palm jaggery), grated Coconut, abuta leaves & fenugreek seeds ( uluva/ methidana) to a halwa like consistency. It is super delicious specifically given to post partum women to recover naturally. Mom says these were made in huge batches and fed to everyone first thing in the morning for maximum benefit! P.S The pix of the leaves has been googled for the benefit of the larger audience #foodloose #indigenousfood #kurukku #malanni #malathangi #abuta #velvetleaf #ayurveda #ayurvedalifestyle #veganinspiration #vegansofig #vegantreats #greenspaces #travancore #kanyakumari #trivandrum #naadan #vegetarianrecipes #ayurvedafood #ayurvedicmedicine #ayur https://www.instagram.com/p/B4jWPNaFL63/?igshid=p5gjwme2o8ba
