🔴Why would Baxter need to "Curry favor" to be an Overlord?

🔴Why is there a line in Scream Rain where a guy in Husk's casino be crying over losing his "Hellbucks" for the "Hell mortgage"?

We literally never see money exchanged for goods in Medrano's hell. At least not among Sinners, which makes actual sense as opposed to Hellborns who are still mortal and would need regular goods like food and housing to survive, Sinners can only be killed by Angelic weaponry/power. So the idea of shelter and food would be nice, but unnecessary. It's something to do, not something they need.

And having Sinners use their own souls as commerce would be interesting, but then Husk owning a Casino means:

HE WOULD STILL HAVE A STEADY STREAM OF PEOPLE GAMBLING THEIR OWN SOULS TO HIM.

Which then makes the idea that no one would try to take his Casino in his absence wishful thinking when we are literally in Hell and power comes from owning souls and people gamble their souls due to souls being the primary form of commerce.

It also recontextualizes the Vees and makes you question what Velvette and Valentino get out of their alliance with Vox when the contract goes to Vox specifically meaning he is the one collecting souls while they are just there helping him gain more power.

And that makes Vox look really stupid for no reason with how he has this cushy pipeline of unlimited power by using Val and Velvette to help him collect souls for himself only to get shitty towards them because Alastor neggs him is hilariously short sighted, which goes against literally everything Vox is as a character. This is a guy who started from the bottom and had long-term planning to the top where he maintained power through a literal cult of personality. And then in season 2, he plots the entire conflict meticulously while balancing a populist public persona.

This man is too smart to fall for that. But he does because Alastor was the one person who didn't want to touch tips? Like how is Alastor even a viable business partner. People avoid the shit out of him because "ooh so scary".

Also, how many souls does one need to have to be an Overlord? Does the number of souls translate to power scale so more souls is more power? Or is it literally money where some weak idiot can luck himself into obtaining another soul and now they are an overlord? Velvette went to the Overlord meeting in Vox's stead but we know Valentino owns at least one other soul, and that line suggests Velvette herself is not an Overlord. Actually I think Carmilla even says as much in season 1.

You see what I mean? Cool idea. Definitely where I would have gone with it. But I would have thought it through more. Really find all those pesky little holes and have some actual rules to my world building before vomiting out whatever sounded cool in the moment. It's fine to do that in the brainstorming phase, but not after you have 2 whole fucking seasons.

I would say Alastor maybe owns the Casino actually, through Husk, but that's not what "Husk owns the Casino" would translate to.

He can't own it and reap nothing from it but whatever.

But if we want to say that there is both money AND souls, why? Why bother having both? If you run a casino, would you not rather have souls than money? Especially when souls provide power while money is arbitrary. Why would you ever bother with money when you can have souls? That's like saying you'll accept monopoly money for goods and services while there is literal silver to be had. Can someone sell part of a soul? How would that work? Seems like Alastor's "favor" system would function more as paper money while soul contracts function as "real" commerce.

Like come on. It's right there for you Medrano, and you still already made it so there is no way to clean this up without half the internet clowning all over you.

AND NOT BECAUSE OF ANYTHING IN THE SHOW!!

What would make this look like a retcon is that you couldn't keep your JKR ass mouth shut and posted on your patron that Husk owns the fucking Casino. You could have made something super interesting with a soul/favor economy!

Cleaning up the rant from above:

🔴Favors function as "paper money" or every day commerce. You want to buy something, you offer a favor. Can be anything from bartering to what Alastor does to Charlie in season 1 with a delay sleeper agent quality.

🔴The bigger the favor the more it "costs" super simple.

🔴Remove all references of money! Just no money! It's unnecessary. It is lazy! It weakens the world building for what Sinners are and confuses audiences. If your joke risks confusing people, T O S S I T. They aren't wrong for getting confused, you're failing on consistency. Make a joke that fits in the universe you created, it literally makes the work better!

🔴Have souls be the nuclear option. People have nothing left, indebted to their eyeballs in favors they can't keep, etc etc etc, they offer their souls.

🔴HAVE ALASTOR OWN THE CASINO!

🟢Seriously, why would Husk gamble his soul BEFORE THE CASINO!? And that adds character for Alastor where he tortures Husk by having him manage the casino he used to own but all the favors and souls are fed to Alastor as the Mafioso in the shadows running it from behind the scenes.

There, I fixed your economy, gave the audience some concrete world building, and it only requires minor alterations to the show that people may be willing to forgive as retcons in season 3 and 4.

EXCEPT YOU POSTED ON YOUR PATREON HUSK STILL OWNS THE CASINO AND BAXTER NEEDS TO "CURRY FAVOR" TO BE AN OVERLORD, SO THERE IS NO WAY TO MAKE THIS WORK.
