Fae Biology: Nervous and Endocrine Systems: Intuitive Magic Control
Fae have very special brains and hormone systems that let them do magic almost like itâs automatic â they donât always have to say long spells or wave a wand like humans do. Their magic feels natural, the same way you can ride a bike without thinking about every pedal turn after you learn it.
The Brain Part â Why Magic Feels So Easy for Them
Fae brains are bigger in the front and side parts compared to human brains. Those bigger areas are in charge of imagination, feelings, and remembering things forever. Thatâs why a fae like Malleus can think âI want a wall of thornsâ and â boom â thorny vines really grow out of the ground. His brain turns the picture in his head straight into real magic. Itâs like his thoughts are magic commands.
Because their brains can change and learn new things for hundreds of years, fae keep getting better at magic their whole long life. Lilia, who is super old, learned a special spell called âFar Cry Cradleâ that lets him see memories. He got really good at it because his brain kept making new connections every time he used it â kind of like leveling up a skill in a game that never stops.
Their ears, eyes, and other senses are extra sharp too. They send tons of information to the brain very fast. For example, Lilia can probably hear super-high sounds (like bats do) and use them to find people or feel magic in the air. That helps him react instantly in a fight or when heâs protecting Malleus.
But thereâs a problem: when fae feel very sad, angry, or lonely for a long time, it hurts their brain. In the game (Book 7), Lilia starts âfadingâ â his brain gets tired and foggy because of all the bad memories from the big war hundreds of years ago. Itâs like when your phone has too many apps open and it slows down. His magic gets weaker and he forgets small things more easily.
Thereâs also something called blot( I will never get tired of calling it a bitch-) â black ink-like stuff that builds up inside when they use too much magic or feel too many bad emotions. Blot is like poison for the brain. When thereâs too much, it makes the fae go crazy for a little while. Thatâs what happens in an overblot: the brain gets overloaded, sees scary fake things, and the body changes into a monster version of itself. Malleusâs overblot in Book 7 happened because he felt so alone that his brain turned his sad dreams into a giant trap that almost swallowed everyone.
Some fans think that when Lilia helped bring Malleus back after his overblot, their brains kind of âtunedâ to each other â like two radios finding the same station. Thatâs why they understand each other so well now. It shows fae brains can connect with people they really care about.
The Hormone Part â Chemicals That Control Magic and Growing Up
Hormones are like little messengers that tell the body what to do. In fae, special hormones make sure magic stays calm and doesnât go wild all the time.
Fae grow up very slowly. Most of them donât become teenagers until theyâre already 200 years old! Special hormones from a tiny part of the brain (called the pituitary gland) keep them looking and acting young for a super long time. That gives their brain extra years to learn magic and get really strong before they become adults.
When they feel strong emotions â love, anger, sadness â hormones flood their body and make magic stronger. Thatâs why Malleusâs magic gets huge and scary when heâs lonely. Itâs like pressing the turbo button, but if you hold it too long, the engine (their body) starts smoking (blot).
For baby fae, especially dragon ones like Malleus, love and happy feelings from someone close are super important. When Malleus was still in his egg, it wouldnât hatch properly until Lilia loved him and talked to him a lot. Hormones from those happy feelings helped the egg finish growing. Without them, the baby might never come out.
In half-fae kids like Sebek (his mom is full crocodile fae, his dad is human), the hormones get mixed up. His human side wants to grow up fast, but his fae side wants to stay young longer. That can make his body confused and maybe not live as long as full fae.
Why All of This Matters in the Story (i am feelind sappy)
The way fae brains and hormones work explains a lot of sad and cool things in Twisted Wonderland:
- They can do amazing magic without trying hard â thatâs why they seem so powerful.
- But bad feelings hurt them more than humans because emotions make magic go crazy â thatâs why loneliness is so dangerous for them.
- They live so long that they watch friends die â that makes them scared to get close to people.
- Old fae like Lilia get tired in the head and body after wars and heartbreak â thatâs why heâs âfadingâ even though he still looks young.
So even though fae look strong and scary on the outside, their brains and hormones make them super sensitive on the inside. Thatâs why the story keeps showing them finding a new family with Yuu and the others â because love and friendship are the only things that really keep their magic (and their hearts) healthy for hundreds of years.
