Starting in about a half hour. Meep!
If you're looking for a new ZX Spectrum to play over the weekend, then you'll be overjoyed to learn that John Davies and Andy Green have finally released their top-down maze shooter developed with AGDx Mini called 'Mage Rage'.
There's not much going on in the retro gaming scene today so to counteract the slowness, here's an upcoming game just announced by Andy Green, it's Mage Rage!
Mage Rage
Cassandra: The mages have made their suffering known. The Templars never have.
I HATE the way she says this , like Mage suffering is a brand new thing, like the Templars suffer valiantly in silence while the mages have the luxury to complain.
No no no. No. No no. First of all the mages have gone hundreds of years suffering in silence Cassandra. They are the ones who were raised and conditioned and forced to suffer in silence , least they be killed or made tranquil, something Mages have explicitly made known is worse than death ( and something you convienantly hold the cure for but are keeping to yourself).
Second of all, mage suffering HAS been known for hundreds of years, itâs just that no one gave a shit. Itâs not a new thing that the mages just suddenly started complaining about. Itâs been common knowledge ESPECIALLY to you as a Seeker, whose main job is to keep the Templars in line. Donât talk about it like itâs a brand new trend or something. It was ALWAYS known.
Third of all, this line implies that the mages âmaking their suffering knowâ is not coming with any consequences, that they have the luxury to sit around and complain( something the game heavily implies Cassandra actually thinks seeing how she treated the Mage representative) when literally just announcing that they were going to be independent resulted in mass slaughter.
And fourth of all it makes it sound like Templars have it equal to Mages in terms of suffering. HELL NO. Templars CHOSE to do this. They can leave at any time. This is a job for them. If itâs so bad they can just stop being Templars. Mages canât turn off their magic as they are so often told. They canât stop being mages. They have to deal. Templars donât. Donât ever try to put Templars and Mages hardship on the same level.
If the intention of this line was to make me feel bad for Templars it failed. Spectacularly.

Pondering a bit about political messaging, and the ways it can succeed and fail.
This is mostly a post about mage rage and Anders, but I will venture to cross the streams just a little bit: I remember from back in the Occupy Wall Street days (remember that?) a political cartoon of a crowd of protesters, holding various signs with a variety of messages and causes, and a reporter standing in front of them saying âThese protesters donât seem to know what they want!â
And thinking about ways that messaging can fail.
There are two major barriers to understanding. The first is willful obfuscation: people donât want  to understand what youâre saying, because if they acknowledge your argument theyâll have to find a way to logically or evidentially refute it, and they may not actually be able to do that -- but if they can pretend your argument is just gibberish then they can sidestep having to actually engage in it.
Slightly less bad-faith, thereâs also the complicating factor that people, especially nowadays though to some extent in every time and place, have limited attention spans. They donât want arguments, they want sound bites, and anything that canât be summed up in one or two pithy sentences will exceed that attention span. And as the real world is exceptionally complicated, real life issues tend to be as well.
So having established that, now to leave behind real-world politics and talk about Anders, and how it is that so many people still donât seem to understand what he believed or what he was trying to do, and how sad it makes me that one of the biggest messages he was trying to get out there fell by the wayside.
On one hand itâs hard to imagine how anyone could get through DA2 without having a clear idea of what Anders thinks and believes and what he wants. He wonât shut up about it, right?! He wrote an entire book about it.  And yet so many people seem to have missed the message, or at least most of it, judging by so many of the reaction posts Iâve seen regarding him. Iâve seen everything from âAnders didnât even have a planâ to âAnders was trying to turn the South into a magocracy just like the Imperiumâ to even more weird and outlandish interpretations.
There are a couple reasons for this (see above.) Some of them are Doylesian, but Iâll concentrate on in-universe reasons for the failure to communicate here.Â
@kourvo replied to your post âI wonder if itâs like⌠people that hate Anders so much that they hate...â
From my experience and what I've noticed, majority of those who hate Anders have not paid any attention to his story and have only a superficial knowledge about the mage/templar conflict and have no idea about the role of the chantry in all of this. All they see is the kaboom and suddenly he's a terrorist, ignoring everything that lead up to that point.
god... youâre... so right... so right...
