It had been a gamble to reveal himself, something Wesker had effectively avoided in the years past his seeming demise in Kijuju's molten grave. With the world none the wiser, his action had remained unnoticed, veiled by false identities and encrypted cashflows — wonders of the new digital age that made things oh so easy compared to the days when he was starting out.

Had it depended on just him alone, he would have preferred it remained this way, his identity hidden, much like his entire person.

Yet developments outside of his control had made his move a necessary, if tedious one.

Finding Ethan Winters had been an ordeal in and of itself, the man practically vanished from earth — much like he himself had — with no lead to be found in the databases of the BSAA. As such, Wesker had at last resorted to the proverbial final straw of letting his mold infection form a connection. It had been a shot in the dark at best, as he had not been able to fully experiment with other molded prior to this, the only remaining probes being in the grasp of the BSAA.

Still, something had made itself known somewhere far away from where he had been residing at the time, and Wesker had followed the feeling.

"The fact you were this hard to find seems to prove that," Wesker said, voice even, almost monotone, while he watched Ethan closely. It had been a couple of arduous months until he finally staked the man out, and another few weeks of surveilling him to make sure none of Chris' men were keeping watch somewhere. A curious detail that he planned to ask about, considering how keen the BSAA had been on keeping Winters safe.

"Still, it bears repeating — no one can know I am here."

He had no trust that the word given would be kept, but all things considered… there was little else he could do at the moment.

"…is there somewhere we can talk?"

             grace  notices  almost  immediately,  because  she  might  as  well  be  a  blood  hound  when  it  comes  to  sugar  and  coffee.  the  treat  inside  looks  immaculately  presented,  and  must  have  had  a  great  deal  of  care  taken  with  it  upon  its  delivery  to  make  sure  that  it  didn't  get  smushed  or  destroyed  completely  in  the  process.  if  she  were  a  dog,  her  tail  would  be  wagging  right  about  now,  but  as  it  is,  her  pale  eyes  slide  over  to  ethan  and  she's  trying  to  fight  off  a  smile.

“  i-is  that…  um…  for  me?  ”  she's  pretty  certain  it  is,  given  how  close  he  placed  it  to  her. 

but  she  doesn't  just  want  to  assume  that  a  delicious  looking  artisanal  donut  is  for  her  tongue  to  touch.

"... Out of all the blonde men to come into my life and then subsequently do things that shorten my existence in this world, you are the only one I never had to worry about biting me."

The note had been in jest. After all, Chris knew how well he had pleased Albert Wesker with their afternoon spent together. He'd decided that whatever they had shared between them could be just pleasure. They were two men, two men that worked together. Two men that worked together in law enforcement. Although times were definitely beginning to be more accepting of same-sex relationships, they weren't so much when it came to workplace relationships, especially when one was higher ranking.

Albert had allowed Chris to drop him off at his apartment, where he had tried not to think too much about the past events shared between them. It was just a good bout of sex, that was all, and for Albert, it had been a long time since he'd shared his body with another man.

The last relationship he had been in had been with a woman from Edonia when he'd been serving. After that, Albert had concentrated on his work. Until now. Until the thought of getting Chris alone again was somehow nagging in the background. He told himself it was just the rush of pleasure he was not used to. Adrenaline, a very normal human thing to feel once one had had a taste again--and Chris looked so good beneath him.

So, the note. It had been a joke. Just a little inside joke between two men that had fucked recently without anyone else knowing about it. Why shan't he praise Chris for such a job well done?

When he heard the tap of knuckled on his door, he called that they could come in, Chris entering. Wesker lowered his mug of coffee and set it aside.

"Chris. A pleasure to see you," he said with his usual cool voice. "I see you read my note." He put his hands onto his desk and looked up at him from where he was sitting, eyes hidden behind his shades.

He starts trying to think of activities they could compete in. The squad knows their captain and his second-in-command are competitive by nature—it isn't something that goes unnoticed within a close-knit team. The duo are forces to be reckoned with. "I swear it wasn't my idea!" Chris holds his hands up and chuckles. "You know what happens when we get together off-duty, we start shit-talking... Having a good time. Keep our minds off all the shit we've gotta deal with for a while." A broad shoulder bumps gently into Jill's. "Thoughts, partner? Do we tell 'em to find another source of entertainment?"

Chris Redfield was full of shit and even worse at hiding it. Tension built in Jill's shoulders when she spied that barely contained smile on his face. A betting pool? What will they think of next. She bristled a bit at his next words, it was like he was trying to rile her up phrasing it like that. It very much implied that she couldn't kick his ass and it just got her competitive blood roaring in her veins. Exactly what he wanted probably, now that she thought about it.

"I can kick your ass, Chris, just like you can kick mine, just depends on what we're doing," she huffed, leaning back in her chair. "Marksmanship? Point to Redfield. Knife throwing? Me," she drawled, gazing back at him with age old intensity. She continued, "Boulder-punching? Chris. Squeezing into places unseen?" she gave him a sarcastic head-to-toe, "Jill."

She wondered why the squad had left the nature of this hypothetical competition up to them. It sounded like more trouble than it was worth but she knew it would probably be good for squad morale. She returned his shoulder bump as a grin ghosted across her lips unbidden.

For   informational   purposes,   Chris   has   told   Thor   everything   about   Ethan   and   what   they've   been   through.   He   wasn't   there   in   Lousiana   when   Chris   stepped   in   but   he   heard   all   about   it.   Only   upon   joining   the   squad   did   he   realize   the   gravity   of   what   was   to   be.   Ethan   has   endured   a   lot   and   he   can   understand   in   different   ways   perhaps.   What   makes   them   all   similar   is   their   tragedies.   They've   all   faced   something   traumatic   in   one   way   or   another   to   get   where   they   are   now.

Even   after   finding   out   everything   about   what   happened   in   Raccoon   city   he   knows   its   only   going   to   get   worse   before   it   gets   better.   Does   it   ever   get   better?   He   doesn't   think   so.   They   have   a   lot   of   work   ahead   of   them   and   being   prepared   is   far   out   of   reach.   Or   so   he   predicts   but   they'll   figure   it   out   one   way   or   another.   Thor   isn't   sure   how   he   feels   about   any   of   it   right   now   but   Chris   assures   him   Ethan   is   one   of   the   good   ones   despite   what   he   is.

She can’t help but laugh a bit. The cradling of her face is immediately destabilizing- not in a bad way, but one that leaves her practically melting into his touch. The kisses are returned when she can, and she eventually reaches up to pull his head down to her level and press her forehead against his for a long moment.

Eyes shut, just enjoying the closeness and intimacy that came with such actions… It made her heart swell in a way she couldn’t explain.
