In a fit of midnight impulse buying, I snagged the Mad Labs Viktor candle in the brief window before it sold out.
I was fascinated by their character perfumes on a conceptual level (and am still to this day laughing about the fact that one of the Viktor scent notes is fucking BLANKET) but I don't really wear fragrances ever. But I CAN fw a scented candle.
Do I think paying seventeen whole human dollars (plus shipping) for a three-ounce novelty candle is a bit ridiculous? Yes I do. This is why in general I should not buy things on my phone at midnight. But in this case, I consoled myself with the knowledge that I was doing it For The Bit.
Viktor R. Candle arrived today and that boi was SECURELY packaged. After a successful extraction and one (1) incident of burning my thumb with the lighter (which on balance I feel was part of the whole experience) it was time to crank light it.
I was prepared for it to be either cloyingly sweet in a gross way, or completely underwhelming, in which case I would simply have to accept that I had spent my seventeen dollars (plus shipping) on An Experience. But it's...quite nice actually?
It is definitely on the subtle side when lit. Which I suppose is better than being overpowering. Sniffing the wax and the cork lid before lighting it you get something sweet (but not overwhelmingly so), vanilla-ish and a bit spicy/cinnamon-y. Once the wax starts melting there is a little of that but much more of an incense-y vibe, with some hints of cedar or maybe sandalwood in there. The interesting thing is that after burning it for about an hour and a half the sweetness has come forward again, into a bit of a "cinnamon pop-tart you burnt slightly in the toaster" situation that is not at all unpleasant. And while it looks like a dinky little thing, based on the melting rate it appears to have more life than you might expect (not unlike someone we know).
Currently the candles are sold out but the wax melts are still available. (Ngl I had to google what a wax melt is.) But like the perfumes I expect they'll be back in stock fairly soon. This is also currently the only Arcane-themed candle, but given that it sold out in like, a day, I feel like it's only a matter of time before they release other character-themed ones.
