13. What's a common writing tip that you almost always follow?
Read your work out loud! When I'm editing, there is almost always at LEAST one pass where I read it out loud. It helps me find typos, incorrect tense (which I am notoriously bad about) and places where I have forgotten a word (a thing I also do often lol).
27. What is your most and least favorite part of writing?
Most: the satisfaction of milestones. Passing 1k, finishing a sprint, completing a work, etc.
Least: APA, not that that applies to fic writing lol but I just spent a year and a half co-writing a 123 page research paper and one of the blessings of being a co-author is I didn't have to do all the APA.
For fic writing it's just that I get frustrated I can't just play the movie in my head for everyone. Like I have to intentionally pick words instead of just letting someone plug into my brain to watch my daydreams.
39. A snippet from my Creature Perpetua fic:
“We both know how you get when you’ve been drinking. How many have you had, 3? 4?” He said condescendingly.
“What are you, watching me?” You try to put all your disgust into your tone so that he gets the hint to fuck off.
He takes a step closer to you and reaches out to caress the side of your face. You feel sick to your stomach at his touch, and consider vomiting on his shoes. “I’m just worried about you, baby.”
As soon as the thought is out, something shifts. The forest is suddenly darker, as if something has blocked the view of the bonfire. Your heart rate spikes and the small hairs on your body all stand up, flesh dimpling, as if you walked past an air conditioner on full blast.
“What-” you start to say, interrupted by the splattering of something hot and wet across your face. As the smell of iron hits your nose, you realize Scott is gone.
