I should note that I am not super tapped into Riverdale fandom, but here's what I came up with after *checks the date* two months:
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you’ve seen on tumblr
I think most Riverwarriors (my name for Riverdale fans) would agree with me on this but the way people who have not seen the show or stopped watching the show talk about the show can get really annoying...I don't mean the people being like 'haha epic highs and lows of high school football', I mean the people who are like 'eww Archie slept with his teacher Riverdale supports grooming' (when Riverdale is in large part ABOUT grooming lmao) or even people who are like 'wow this show is so stupid I will never watch it' like okay who asked you.
In terms of takes from people who've seen the show I'll be honest I don't really interface with the larger Riverdale fandom, like I literally just discovered that people hated Veronica and Tabitha through the free my girl tourney (I mean, I had assumed they probably got some hate because they are women of color and fandom is predictable, but I didn't have any confirmation). Most of the snippets I've seen from larger fandom are complaints about Betty (evil, joyless, loveless) or complaints about how S1 was bad (wrong) or how S1 was the only good season (wrong). And those were on Twitter when I have briefly gone on there and seen Riverdale tweets.
Umm what else. Well this is hardly the worst thing anyone's ever said about Riverdale, it's not even top 100 things probably, doesn't contain any misogyny or racism or anything, but I guess recently I did see someone complain about Jughead's esteemed 'I'm a weirdo' monologue not because it's corny (which is joyless but at least true) but because he's 'berating Betty for no reason.' Uh, no, he's angry because his friends ambushed him with a huge party he explicitly said he didn't want. He was frankly pretty damn nice about that situation.
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
I guess to circle back to what I said above, people seem to fall into camps of 'S1 was peak Riverdale' or 'S1 was boring,' and, well, no. S1 was iconic and absolutely laden with subtext and at times text about abuse and incest and grooming. There was so much Cheryl and Jason and Archiecherylism and Archie-being-Jason. S1 was awesome. But, peak Riverdale? No, of course not, we didn't even have Betty's serial killer gene or Hiram is Hiram forever or Toni turning into La Llorona or It's not queerbaiting it's saving the world. We didn't even have Tabitha Tate...let us be serious.
