exploration records - memories of a certain disciple (7-8)
7 - Elgaia's Prosperity
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
After losing his master, Restoc had no direction in life. He only had the God Emperor's last order: to have humanity destroyed. However, he had no way to fight against summoning. Ashamed, he stands in his one true home: the tower. It's been vandalized during his absence, he realizes, and his anger only grows.
Man has surpassed God. How? Being immortal, he has plenty of time to think about it. He realizes that the human who had wounded him was wearing armor that the gods had forged, and that the human who had killed his master was using gods as tools. They use what their enemies create, or their enemies themselves, as the source of their strength. To combat this, he mused, was to use the power of humans. He remembered that when he was in Mistral, they had thought of him as one of them. They couldn't tell that he was a disciple.
He decides that his top priority was to learn more about humans in Elgaia. He passes through the Gate of Lucius, and immediately notices a change in himself. Restoc thought of the La Veda knight who defeated him, and Will manifested before him as a unit. It appeared that he was able to use summoning magic. It was easy for him! No advanced techniques or magic were required at all. While he stands there, stunned, a human approaches him and warns that using summoning is forbidden here. For a moment, he considered using the knight to kill the human, but then quickly decided to heed the warning. Now wasn't the time. In order to become proficient with summoning, he must study how others use it. After all, that's what a human would do.
--The humans were so kind, it was almost ridiculous. They showed him the way to Randall, and then the location of Akras Summoning Hall. They also didn't forget to explain what Akras was, and he became a novice summoner.
The prosperity of Imperial Capital Randall surpassed that of any city that had been established in Grand Gaia. Restoc considered the fact that humans built this without the favor of the gods, and felt a sense of awe. He was a bit ashamed of the fact that he had never doubted that god was superior to man. The ability to do great things within a short lifespan and pass things on to descendants was what made humans great, Restoc considered. (wrong.) Just as dry earth absorbs water, he continues to learn many things from humans.
8 - 23rd Demon Slayer Squad Sky Garden
Drifting in Avelhein, someone’s memories flow.
Restoc met a man in Akras' Arena who called himself Lugina, and he left a strong impression with his unintelligent expression and vulgar language. However, he quickly realizes that it was a deliberate facade designed to elicit a reaction, and that in reality, he's extremely intelligent. (wrong!) Lugina seemed to understand what Restoc was thinking, and recruited the novice summoner into his squad. (extremely loaded sentence that is probably also wrong. i <3 you unreliable narrator) There's a possibility that he would be able to see that Restoc wasn't human, so to avoid this, the latter decided to further suppress his power as a disciple.
The Demon Slayers were originally units assembled to defeat demons who came from Ishgria, but now it simply serves as the elite of Akras. Among them, the Sky Garden is one of the best. There was a man named Nigel in the same squad, and since he seemed to like Restoc, he started to talk to him in a friendly manner and tried to join him in various activities. It was clear what Nigel wanted - friendship. In order to act like a human, Restoc accepted this and decided to play the role of a comrade. He also became close with Nigel's younger brother, Faber, and his childhood friend, Olivia.
-Reinvestigation of the world of Rokkzalm. During his time with the Sky Garden, he came close to death many times, even as a disciple. The power of the God Emperor was meaningless to the fierce warriors of another world. For the first time, he learned the meaning of the word "comrade". The feeling he had for Nigel and the others was genuine friendship. He no longer needed to pretend to be human. (extremely loaded sentence!!!!!) He was able to speak, smile and think like one. Nigel, Faber, Olivia, and Sharon, the engineer providing support, were Restoc's friends.
Restoc was aware that Olivia had feelings for him. He also knew that Nigel was aware of this and had stepped back to give them space. However, they avoided talking about it simply because he didn't want to strain their friendship. Their relationship now was comfortable, and he didn't want to ruin it. It was a very human way of thinking. Restoc realized this one night, and laughed at himself, marvelling at how human he had become.
When he had found out that Karna Masta had been killed, his pride as a disciple had been shattered. He had assimilated to human culture quickly and accepted himself as one of them. Unlike his friends, he would live for a long time, and he figured that once doubts began to arise about his appearance, he could simply disappear, and when the dust settled, he could change his name and rejoin the Summoners Hall.
And so he could live forever as a human. The will of the gods no longer mattered. He could live his life how he wished.
