Lu Ye [b. 271, d. 21 October 334], courtesy name Shiguang, was a native of Wu in Wu commandery. His father's elder brother Xi [JS054] was Wu's Master of Writing of the Personnel Section. His father Ying was Chancellor of Gaoping and outer member [?] of the Cavaliers in Regular Attendance.

Ye as young had a reputation for elegance. His senior cousin Ji [JS054] always extolled him, saying: “This generation of my family will not lack Excellencies.” During the mourning period he accordingly became known for filial piety.

Gu Rong [JS068] from the same commandery and the people in the district wrote, saying: “Shigu's breath is in a reduced category [?], [we] worry for his life, speaking of his injured heart.” [?] He was later examined as Filial and Upright, was appointed Prefect of Yongshi and Wujiang counties, to both he did not attend.

When Emperor Yuan first headquartered left the Jiang, he sought him to be Libationer, there followed filling of General who Excites Power and Grand Warden of Yixing. Due to illness he did not serve. He had merits in preparing the punishment of Hua Yi [JS061] and was enfeoffed Marquis of Pingwang village. He amassed to be moved to Cavalier in Regular Attendance and Great Central Corrector of the home commandery.

In the 1st Year of Taixing [318 AD], he moved to Overseer of Affairs to the Heir-Apparent. At the time Emperor, due to the Palace Attendants all being northern gentlemen, found it proper to also employ a southern person. Ye, due to being known for clarity and virtue, was therefore designated Palace Attendant, moved to Master of Writing, acting as the province's Great Central Corrector.

When Emperor Ming was enthroned, he was shifted to Superintendent of the Brilliantly Blessed, moved to Grand Master of Ceremonies, replacing Ji Zhan [JS068] as Supervisor of the Left of the Masters of Writing, acting as Junior Tutor to the Heir-Apparent. There followed promotion to gold and purple [ribbon] and Brilliantly Blessed Grandee, replacing Bian Kun [JS070] as General who Leads the Army. Due to merits in pacifying Qian Feng, he was advanced in feudal rank to Earl of Jiangling.

When the Emperor was not at ease [i.e. sick], Ye, Wang Dao [JS065], Kun, Yu Liang [JS073], Wen Jiao [JS067] and Xi Jian [JS067] all accepted to look after the instructions and assist the August Heir-Apparent, additionally to enter the hall with generals and soldiers standing vigil.

A testamentary decree said: “Ye, pure, committed, loyal and virtuous, in successive posts displaying assurance. Moreover his elder and younger brothers serve the ruler like their father, concerned for the state like their family, when the year becomes cold not withering, their persons a family tradition. [?] Since he is already appointed to the Six Armies, he can Record the Affairs of the Masters of Writing, with promotion to Cavalier in Regular Attendance.”

When Emperor Cheng walked the eastern steps [i.e. became Emperor], he was designated Brilliantly Blessed Grandee of the Left, Opening Office with the Same Ceremonies as the Three Ministers, given 100 person troops, Regular Attendant as before.

[According to JS007, he was Grandee of the Right, and only received Opening Office on 12 May, after Su Jun was defeated]

At the troubles of Su Jun, Ye followed the Emperor left to Shitou, recommending inciting the upright and square, and did not due to the murderers' power betray the authority. [?] Jun, due to Ye being respected among the Wu gentlemen, did not dare to add him to the murdered, making him stay and defend the palace. [?]

When Kuang Shu used Yuancheng to return to obedience, everyone at the time pushed Ye forward to as Controller of the Army Affairs of the Palace city.

When Jun was pacified, he was promoted to General of the Guards and given 1 000 troops and 100 cavalry [on 12 May 329, JS007]. Due to his achievements, he was advanced in feudal rank to a Duke, and his second son Gu enfeoffed Viscount of Xinkang.

In the middle of Xianhe [326 – 334], he requested to return to the home village to serve the graves and tombs. Had the ministers memorialise on it, the old system tolerating 60 days. The Palace Attendant Yan Han [JS088] and the Attendant Gentleman of the Yellow Gates Feng Huai rebutted, saying:

“Ye has stored up within the furthest virtue, uniquely pure in his heart, accepting the weight of an entrusted commission, residing in office with the rank of a minister. Already braving a decree allowing to save and make good the graves, a Great Subject's righteousness originates in forgetting about himself . How can it be accepted to have a time limit and then return back? Not having a time limit must surely be far-reaching. [?] This Dullard says he ought to return when natural to return, not on a fixed day.” [?]

The Emperor followed it, Ya because of that returned.

He passed on due to illness [on 21 October 334, JS007], at the time he was 74 years old. He was posthumously conferred Palace Attendant and Great General of Chariots and Cavalry, with the posthumous title Majestic [mu].
