Picture that Inspires me
My People!
You see that picture right there? It inspires me a lot. It reminds me of the good old days! This picture was taken by my very good friend, Barineka Maagbo Divine ( IG @da_titan). He’s a photographer and a Cryptopreneur. He took this picture, while on tour in Oyo State, Ibadan in Nigeria.
Now why do I love this picture? It reminds me of those days, before the smart phones, before the world became digital. It’s not like I remember so much about it, but i still get goose bumps, each time I remember an event that happened to me and my mum some years back. It may sound funny, but as a child, it was a big deal for me.
So on a hot afternoon, I and my mum went to the market and then we had bought almost everything we needed to buy from the market, and then we decided to stop by at a restaurant close by to eat before we continue the journey. We ate from the same plate, and when we were done with the food, it was time to pay. You won’t believe that this woman (my mum) lost her purse, lol. And then the restaurant owner started shouting at her, requesting for her money. Where I come from, if you are unable to pay after eating your food, in a restaurant, you will be forced to wash all the dirty dishes in the restaurant and they are ready to keep you for as long as they want, until they are satisfied. So, the owner of the restaurant, continued shouting and threatening my mum, that she’s going to have to wash the dishes in their kitchen, if she can’t pay up. I could see the confusion in my mum’s eyes, as she kept on deeping her hands in all the bags to see if her purse was there, still we couldn’t find it. As a child, I used to have little savings, lol, and I had just 1 naira on me (coin). I brought it out, innocently, with the intention of paying for what we ate, Lol. But ofcourse, the food was way more expensive than that.
To cut the long story short, my mum took my 1 naira coin from me, and made me wait in the restaurant. Guys! I started crying when she left. I thought she had sold me for a plate of rice, and even took my money, kikiki. The restaurant owner didn’t keep her eyes off me just to make sure I didn’t run away. Lol, it was a terrifying moment for me only to find out my mum went out to make a phone call using a phone booth. The phone booth saved us from washing their dirty dishes! lol. So everytime I see that picture, I smile, because I have a story behind it. Thank you for taking your time to read this. Lol, Ok Bye!
