Warnings: Encanto Spoilers?

a/n: Thinking the next chapter will be shorter. It’s finals week for me. I’d love to here some of your thoughts on the au thus far.

Calling the posts “chapters” because I want to.

prompt: The beginning of the my Single Dad Bruno au.

Ultimately, Adelita stopped leaving plates at the back door.

Instead, she stayed up and shared a meal with him at her window.

He doesn’t eat alone anymore.

This man will just listen to her ramble about her day.

“Today I gotted a pineapple, only it wasn’t, really. So I had it and I didn’t know what to do with it. So I ate it but it didn’t taste like a pineapple cause it wasn’t, it was a mango. But I like mangoes so it was okay.” - Adelita.

He doesn’t talk much about himself, specifically his past, but he did formally introduce himself.

“Oye, el nombre es Bruno… just Bruno,” - Ratman Bruno

“Hola, just Bruno. Soy Adelita Guerreo.” - Adelita.

Bruno often puts on theatrical acts to entertain the little girl.

She had a sweet laugh.

During the day, Adelita begins to feel someone following, watching her.

“You don’t have to hide in the bushes,” Adelita called out as she trekked down the dirt path to town. “It’s kinda creepy.”

A rat appeared from the foliage.

A lizard and now a rat, Adelita’s visible companions as she went about her day.

Though Adelita might be the outsider amongst the village children, she is a regular darling according to the grown-ups.

She knows her please and thank yous and when to help someone struggling.

Ex; helping Sra. Duran load her stores onto their cart.

Lizard and rat sidekick shenanigans.

She watches the other kids play for a short while but, as always, doesn’t interact.

By early afternoon, she is one tired little girl.

Adelita’s Abuela is surprised but not shocked when she falls asleep at the table.

“Have you been sleeping well, chiquita?” - Abuela.

“Sí, I would like more bistec a caballo.” - Adelita.

The little peanut takes a needed nap following lunch.

Her fury tagalongs burrow into her bag for a nap of their own until she wakes up.

One particular evening, Adelita falls asleep at her windowsill, early on in Bruno's performance.

She apologizes the next morning while walking “alone” into town.

Bruno decides to put a pause on day-to-day evening visits.

“You’re leaving, too?”

He assures her that it’s not forever.

And it isn’t

It’s just-

-Kids need their sleep.

He still visits by Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings. And has his rat watching over her during the days.

Adelita does have her own things to do during the day. Her own interests.

For example, learning to sew from her Abuela.

Adelita’s Abuela was the community's only seamstress - self taught - when they first arrived in Encanto. And her mother took up the mantle after her abuela.

Though she’s still a beginner, she finds the practice of sewing calming.

Sunday evening is her favorite. She gets to recount everything she did over the weekend.

“Abuela, she taught me to make sudado de Pollo. Your little friend really likes it.” - Adelita

(Her lizard likes crickets)

Adelita tries to rush her Abuela’s story at bedtime because she has to tell Bruno about her day.

However, her Abuela reminds her that she can’t rush things.

Adelita can be an impatient child.

“Have I told you the story of parents and the plantain tree?” - Abuela

With the topic of family in her head, she decides to ask Bruno about his.

“I’m separated from them.” - Bruno

“Oh… well, you can be part of mine. Mi familia, es tu familia.” - Adelita.

“I think it’s time to say goodnight.” - Bruno

Stark Breakfast

Slowly opening my eyes I immediately shut them seeing the sunlight stream through the curtain of the bedroom. Rolling over to have my back face it instead I see my boyfriend Tony sleeping. Shifting my right elbow up I lean my head against it watching him sleep peacefully for once. He's told me of what happened in the battle of New York but he still has nightmares about it all. "You should take a picture it'll last longer and you won't drool on the pillow." I jump a little hearing him mumbling still eyes closed but a smile on his face.

"Good morning to you to Tony. I didn't know you were awake yet." I smiled snuggling into his chest looking into his eyes, he draped an arm over my side pulling me closer to him. "If I told you I was awake I wouldn't get to stare at my beautiful girlfriend without her knowing." I shove him a little only for him to snatch my wrists rolling me onto my back with him hovering above me. He smiled pressing his lips onto mine and my fingers twisted into his hair. He stared pushing my shirt up about to take it off until my stomach grumbled loudly. "Guess my girls really hungry. What do you want for breakfast?'

He gets out of the bed throwing on his shirt hovering discarded last night eyeing me as I slip on my jeans heading and kissing him quickly. "Could you make omelets?" He rests his hands on my hips coking a brow at my question. "I've never been good a cooking, how about take out instead?" I shake my head grabbing his right wrist dragging him into his kitchen. Sitting down at the kitchen Island I called for JARVIS. "Jarvis, play Tony's favorite song please?" A few minutes later music plays through the house as Tony grabs everything to make us breakfast. "I don't see why we can't just go back to bed, order food and do something together?" He wiggled his eyebrows at me starting to cook the eggs.

"Don't give me that look Stark. I'd rather watch you cook-" He cuts me off leaving the eggs on the stove pulling me from my chair kissing me deeply. "Tony-" I warn him until he moves to kissing my neck trying to get me to give in. "You weren't complaining last night, Y/n." Grabbing his hair I put his lips back on mine for a moment until my nose smells smoke. "Tony!" He kisses me deeply but I push him back seeing the eggs burning. He rushed to move the pan from the stove hearing his AI inform. "I'll inform Ms. Potts of the fire, sir." Crossing my arms over my chest I scold my boyfriend who weakly smiled at me. "You did that on purpose, Anthony Stark." He cups my face in his hands slightly smirking. "Maybe I did maybe I didn't you'll never know. Now how do cheeseburgers sound for breakfast instead?" I roll my eyes I tug his lips to mine grabbing his shirt. "You're lucky I love Tony."

There we go a new chapter! Hope you enjoy, or at least don’t hate it.
