like yeah there’s a lot of good oneshots out there, props to those guys, but I want a long, intricate story where I get attached to that specific version of them. I don’t even want it to be ABOUT their relationship, I want it to be a cool plot that just so happens to feature Lotus and Rurik being cute and flirty and embarrassing on the side. Like PLEASE GUYS someone write something LONG

This is so post-Lorik breakup. Like thinking the other has fallen out of love with them, being miserable believing they'll never be close like that again. That guilt and shame of pining over someone you believe doesn't hold any affection for you anymore. (Oh, Lorik, how I adore you 😭)

I kept the bit where they met as children/tweens but the friendship became more complicated when they were around 15. At 17, instead of like in the original where that's when Rurik moved on from Lotus and got with Dante, he didn't know the other yet. It was very tense as that's when it was getting so bad that he got caught by the police and sent to a bootcamp, then at 18 Rurik enlisted and during those over 2-3 years they had less contact than ever in their life, they also had time to reevaluate so... When he came back (after his friend died and he spiralled down, otherwise he would've stayed in the army) to Lotus they already had a completely different view on their relationship (and life?) than before. Andd not long after coming back, after one situation (essentially him accusing Lotus of being a cold faced bastard and Lotus calling him a reckless hothead) he said screw it and decided to move somewhere else, on his way out he went to a bar. And that's where he met Dante

Sometimes things happen in D&D and you need an excuse to not look suspicious.
