Garden of Earthly Delights // I'm happily oystered in the studio right now, preparing a piece for a Bosch-inspired show in the spring, and it's been an interesting moment to reflect on the line of his influence shot through my older work. It's funny, really, because when I was working out what I wanted to do, I realized that ten years ago, I would have been much better positioned to make a (straightforward) piece for the show-- the challenge is much stickier now, since my work has evolved away from "big scene with many narrative littles". Especially returning to character-based work wouldn't have been an option here, so it's been equal parts thrill and teeth-gnashing working out what does justice to the theme. What *is* comforting is that the organelle and clamdangit scenes I've been constructing lately are actually returns to a very familiar little Schlaraffenland.
