Finally managed to find time to read chapter 9 and I have to, once again, say that I absolutely adored this chapter. Admittedly Knuxouge isn't really my thing, but for what it's worth I really enjoyed reading their banter and learning more about their relationship.
Something I've noticed in this chapter and in previous chapters is just how long you manage to make parts where you talk about the characters feelings, thoughts and relationships without repeating yourself. To me that implies a deep understanding of the characters and their relationships. I was wondering just how you do that? How much planning goes into a chapter like this?
(oh and a follow up from my last ask where I said that it felt like chapter 8 lost steam toward the end, I don't feel that for chapter 9)
(Youre good man, DW. I didn't even notice tbf until you corrected it xD)
I'm so glad you enjoyed Chapter 8 and the Knuxouge stuff despite it not being for you, that makes me super happy. Also really pleased that you didn't feel it lost steam, I really did try to tie things up neatly with this chapter, but the fact that it stood alone as it's own thing kinda leant towards that a bit more. It was definitely a challenge though, cuz it was more like writing a clean short story rather than the typical chapter with a more open ending.
That's a really interesting question btw and I'm gonna do my best to answer it because I think half the stuff you're asking about isn't always a super conscious decision for me, so I'll try to be more analytical about my process. But thank you! I do try to get really into details with their characters and relationships (this is a drama afterall, so thats important) And i think thats where all this stems from is wanting to really portray exactly who these guys are and the depths of their relationships and why thats important.
(Actual answer below but I realised it was very long so if I were to give a TL;DR; I write out the scene, then I dive into the character's actions and dialogue within the scene, and explain why it reflects their character and relationships to each other, using themes and symbols to emphasise :') tho sometimes the reflection comes first and I write the actions around that too! Most of the time its not that linear, sometimes it flows out and i switch between, sometimes i go back and add things, either dialogue/actions or emotional reflections/description.)
---
I'm kind of a waffler anyway, its pretty obvious at this point that i like to info dump, and im sure thats not for everyone but people seem to like it. I actively try to tone it down and fine-tune it as best as I can, but I just really like getting deep into things.
So in general, there are themes that I want to cover, headcanons I want to share, emotional details I want to explain, and there's a lot of subtext underneath every scene and because I'm trying to give you my versions/headcanons of these characters, I'm trying to explain and show that subtext so that they feel believable.
The biggest thing I'm thinking about when I'm writing a relationship (romantic, platonic, familiar, whatever) Is what they mean to each other, what do they represent to each other? And in order to understand what they mean to each other, I gotta think about what they lack as individuals (or maybe not LACK, but what are they missing/need that the other person fulfils in their life just from what that person has in their personality or character), and then I go deeper into why that matters.
I also like to work a lot with themes and symbols and metaphor. There are concrete themes in TDWM that are kind of the groundwork for everything else, and to express how important these characters are to each other, i like to go into what they symbolise to each other.
And because no-one ever does anything on accident (we all make decisions based on our character), I'm looking at why a character says or does something and then I explain it.
Once I've sneezed it all out onto the document, I go back and refine from it sounding like waffle to it having some kind of flow xD

So with the Rouge and Knuckles chapter for example; There is a lot of 'telling' initially, because I wanted to give context throughout the showing, so that when we get to the flashback scenes you have all the information you need to fill in the blanks and understand why every decision they've made has brought them to this present relationship. At least that was my intention, but I still have a habit of waffling too hard sometimes.
In a way, i kind of treat it like 'doing the math' lol
So for them, the thought process goes like this (and a lot of this is headcanon building on headcanon based on what I take from the media) :
What does Knuckles represent to Rouge? -> Home, security, comfort, stability, predictability. -> Why? Because he was raised to care about tradition, because he knows the importance of commitment and duty (why? because he's spent the first part of his life guarding an important artefact without question or applause) -> Why does this matter to Rouge? Because 1 we know she respects competence (based on how she acts and who she associates herself with and the self-respect she has for her own capabilities) and Because 2 Rouge lacks that stable predictability in her own life (why? because shes a government spy/treasure hunter who is all over the place fulfilling her job and goals.)
So then how is this shown in the chapter -> Rouge comes home from work and Knuckles is already making dinner, making her tea, taking care of her, doing domestic things like reinforcing pre-established predictable house rules. How does Rouge respond to this? Throughout the chapter she visibly relaxes, she banters back about house rules because she's aware of their established routine, she physically disrobes to get comfortable, she cuddles him and rests against him for support, she falls asleep in the bedroom knowing that she's safe and loved and is being taken care of.
Then what are the symbols? -> Mountain's being unshakable, flying creatures are in constant motion and without the ground they'll keep falling, birds needing somewhere to perch etc, the dragonfly finding a tulip to settle on, the bee wearing the pollen of a flower so it can return to it, lighthouse on an island for ships in a storm.
For Knuckles, his symbolism is more obvious because he's consistently comparing her to an angel even in his own words, (and I like that it contrasts with how Rouge has seen herself and has been seen in the past, even by him.)
So do it again. What does Rouge represent to Knuckles -> hope, freedom, liberation, his bridge from isolation, someone who descended into his lonely world. Why? Because Rouge lives by her own rules (why? because she can physically go anywhere in the open air as a flying creature, shows up to him uninvited and leaves on her own terms. She completes government missons and treasure hunts all around the world) -> Why does this matter to Knuckles? Because he spent his life being tethered to one spot and bound by duty (and completely alone with limited access to his friends).
How is this shown in the chapter? -> She makes it possible for him to live away from the Emerald and build his own life (because she handles the modern world for them). She offers to reach out to his friends for him because he can't do it alone. She gives active solutions to the Sonic situation because Knuckles struggles to reach out. (why? because he's been conditioned to accept isolation.) He waits for her on Angel Island because he learns from her company that he's actually very lonely, and her presence makes him feel less trapped in his duty. All of this is forms of liberation.
What are the symbols? -> There's physical angelic symbolism in the way she's floating and descending to him to hug him while she's helping to untangle his concerns. The freedom of flying and jealousy over it- In some ways I put in tradition/religion being oppressive, and the bitterness that can come from seeing someone live freely in a way that feels inaccessible under strict order. Burrowing animals being led into the light. Being crushed by tombs. Being trapped under the earth. Just liberation imagery.
And because this is a healthy relationship, I like to mention how they notice the cues of each other, and actively fulfil those needs. Like Rouge noticing that Knuckles might need her to text Cream for him -> thats her understanding her partner on a deep level. Knuckles realising that he spoke a little to harsh about shadow and later being nice about it -> that's him understanding Rouge and tending to her emotionally.
And I'm trying to work all of that in together, between context/subtext, actions and dialogue in the scene, and symbolism. And sometimes that comes from writing out the scene first and then thinking 'ah, this action happened because this character is feeling this way' so then I explain that. OR its the other way around where I want to write about why they matter to each other, and then i think 'i can show this by having them do/say this in the scene'. And i just figure out where that works.
So for example, the moment with them bantering about each other having an attitude, I think 'thats a good place to dive into their banter, and then their personalities, and the fact that Rouge likes a guy who is willing to play with her, but how she also likes a man she can fluster- so then I explain how knuckles is that perfect middle ground- and zing, theres the attraction! But not just that, here is how their compatibility works on a deeper level too...' And that all came from them arguing over a wash basket lol,
because the wash basket moment shows a bit of everything- from their chemistry to their domestic routine, which easily leads into me explaining what they want when it comes to engaging with a partner (why they're attracted to each other beyond aesthetically) and why their values align on a deeper level (shared competence + stability and predictability vs freedom to build a life)
---
NOW FOR SHADOW AND SONIC it works the same way.
So if we look at the scene from Chapter 2 where Sonic and Shadow are having their conversation at the table, theres also a lot going on that im trying to show, because why is Sonic even in that situation in the first place and WHY is his relationship with Shadow so important? I do the math.
Shadow represents a feeling of safety that no-one else can give Sonic -> Why? Because Sonic is the worlds hero and Shadow is his rival -> why does that matter? Because that means only Shadow can match him, and that means that if Sonic were to fail then at least someone could catch him and finish the job = Sonic feels less pressure on him when Shadow is around, he's allowed to be vulnerable because vulnerability no longer means that people die (because someone else can do his job too). -> So what happens when that's gone? It means that Sonic, without that invisible safety net, is unable to be vulnerable when things go wrong. -> And what are the consequences of that? When things go wrong (like a divorce) he can't reach out to his friends, he can't admit he's struggling, he cries on his own, be berates himself for struggling and he constantly feels alone. And when he finds himself homeless and struggling with money, he can't ask for help -> Until Shadow comes back.
I've sort of explained that by working backwards there, but if it was reversed and i asked first 'why is sonic in this position' instead, doing the math the other way still makes sense to me how things transpired by Shadow disappearing, and why he was so desperate to see Shadow and stay with him when he came back.
I do the exact thought process with how his relationship with amy fell apart, and how I write Shadows internal thoughts with the 'maria voice'.
Usually when there's an emotional/character/relationship point I want to make, I'll write a list out for that beat (exactly how I've just shown you here, but less detailed), or I'll put in a note while I'm writing just to be like 'mention Shadow in conversation here- then explain Knuckles' history with him, initial relationship jealous but shadow mega gay lol, then why hes pissed that he left rouge on her own for a decade.'
This was a long response but I wanted to go into detail and I hope that helps, I've never thought about it in concrete terms before haha xD

i’m sure it’s been brought up by someone else but would it be a reach to say that whats-his-face and whats-her-name from ep 7 are meant to be a callback to buck’s discomfort over tommy having been abby’s fiance and the discomfort he felt in that situation where it made him feel like didn’t belong in that relationship anymore? like i know with abby and tommy, he questioned tommy’s treatment of abby and how he thought it was wrong for tommy to “lie” to her, but even then i never thought that was the actual point of buck’s discomfort…
(this is going to be a long ask so i apologize)
i’m going to try and make this make as much sense as possible, but here we go
abby was buck’s first serious adult relationship, just like tommy was buck’s first relationship after discovering an element of himself that he had been missing up until then (i’m not going to go into detail on all of the parallels between tommy and abby bc it’s been done time and time again)
but we see a certain level of disinterest from tommy towards buck throughout their relationship; when we get to 8x06, they try to imply through the whole josh glee speech thing that buck’s main source of discomfort in their relationship is that tommy lied to abby about his sexuality. even at the time i didn’t buy that reasoning because it feels a bit out of character for buck to consider breaking up with tommy for not being comfortable coming out to abby… i think the real reason was that he began putting pieces together in his mind and was drawing conclusions the audience already had.
buck was basically a rebound for abby (ik that’s watering it down a little bit but for all intents and purposes…) she basically told him as much after the train derailment, and practically had the same exact “i’m your first not last” conversation with him as tommy ended up having.
i think deep down, buck realized that to both abby and tommy, he was never something serious- he was kind of (again watering it down a bit) just a fun fling for both of them and only found out after the fact that not only had he been used for that purpose, but it wasn’t communicated to him until it was over.
buck very much wants a full two-sided relationship with someone that he can settle down with. he knows this, and we know this. which is why i think initially, when ep 7 came out and the whole moral of the episode was “oh buck realizes he wants to find love” people took pause and felt a bit annoyed that the plotline felt a bit like beating a dead horse, especially considering that was effectively what buck’s entire arc w tommy was in s8.
now, looking at s8 and how things kind of got derailed, i think it makes sense that they are now trying to revive that point for buck if they are planning on continuing his story this season the same way they were going to in s8 (whatever that may be)
and they did that by having buck sleep with a married couple. they intentionally made the choice to have him sleep with them separately, not together, when (if the whole point of the episode was JUST about buck wanting to find love) they could have easily just had him sleep with both of them at once. but by sleeping with them separately he doesn’t realize they are a couple, and doesn’t realize that it’s a casual thing for either of them until after the fact. combine that with the symbolism of buck hooking up with the woman “first” and the man “second” (ik the montage it was intercut but it started with him going out with the woman first and he got her number first too), and to me the parallels between tommy and abby become very clear- a couple (former in tommy and abby’s case) who used him as a fling without telling him until after the fact and left him at the conclusion that he wanted something serious more than casual.
i feel like this comparison has to have already been made but i haven’t seen it anywhere and i think it’s a very interesting concept considering what they seemingly were setting up last season with buck (and eddie)… and i was curious what your thoughts on this angle are?
again i apologize for the long ask, i just couldn’t figure out a way to make this more concise 😭
Hey Nonnie.
Thanks for such a great and in depth ask. I really agree with pretty much everything you’ve said and it’s a lot of the way I feel about things. I definitely think we’re meant to see Jade and Zane as parallels to Abby and tommy. Even on just a surface level we have Buck being pursued by both people who were or are part of a relationship with one another - specifically for his being a “unicorn” not one of them was actually interested in Buck the person all four relationships (of whatever length they were) were all focused on what Buck could do to them, what he represented and not what was mutually beneficial.
I also agree - I don’t think that Tommy lying to Abby and his treatment of her as a result of the lying was the soul source of his discomfort - I do think it was a part of it, I think it made him question if he would be treated in a similar way or if Tommy was lying to him as well (which he was imo by virtue of not being upfront and honest about why he was with Buck or that he didn’t see the relationship being a long term one - until he was forced into that confession. And while there technically isn’t anything wrong I’m not stating from the get go that you don’t see the relationship as being long term etc - especially with Buck stating that he didn’t know what he was ready for - Tommy made no effort at all to check in and have that conversation at any point during the relationships length!) but not the main source.
I also think that the glee monologue from Josh was meant to highlight all the things missing from the relationship and actually get Buck to question his relationship - I don’t think it was meant to be a convincing argument in favour of Tommy - I think the intention was always for Buck to misunderstand what Josh was trying to do, to highlight (because that is the central theme of Bucks romantic journey - that he isn’t able to understand what he is looking for in a relationship because of his upbringing and that the relationships he keeps finding himself in are as a result of that upbringing - so he keeps associating physical intimacy with emotional intimacy because that is how his parents showed him love. He is learning to undo that conditioning) to the audience as much if not more than to Buck himself, all the things his relationship with Tommy is lacking - his reaction to Josh asking if he was in love with Tommy was revealing all on its own without the rest of the speech.
I think part of Bucks entire journey, especially since the network change and he and Tommy first kissed, has been very much centred on Bucks search for emotional connection and intimacy and showing how he’s getting better at figuring out when he isn’t getting that and also realising that he’s jumping to sexual intimacy too quickly - that he gets a tiny crumb of it and immediately jumps into bed with someone rather than taking the time to really get to know them before moving into a physical relationship. The Tommy of it all and his struggle with getting over that break up (initially), for me was centred around both paralleling the Abby of it all, whilst also highlighting exactly where Buck was getting his emotional intimacy and the fact that had been impacted - and he hadn’t truly recognised that and still doesn’t recognise what that meant.
I am of course talking about Eddie and Christopher - I remain strongly of the opinion that the BT relationship would not have lasted anywhere close to as long as it did had Kim not appeared on the scene and everything that went down there with Eddie causing Chris to leave. The web is super tangled up with this entire thing because there are multiple angles in which to see the ripples of what happened.
There is of course the physical absence of Chris - that had a big impact on Buck - his internalised failure to get Chris to stay with his dad in the aftermath the most obvious one, but also the fact that co-parenting Chris is actually a massive part of Bucks identity and self worth at this point - its an emotional tether he gains a huge amount of positivity from helping ground him and feel worthy in ways he doesn’t elsewhere in his life. There is obviously guilt wrapped up in this as well - because if he is feeling this way then how must Eddie be feeling and what right does Buck have to feel anything much about it. So Tommy becomes a sort of replacement for that emotional tether missing in his life.
This situation in and of itself pushes Buck into remaining in a relationship we have already had hints he’s realising isn’t actually what he wants or needs (some of the looks we’ve seen Buck give when Tommy has said something - such as at the medal ceremony - or his lack of interest in or care for Buck more generally before the Kim thing blew up) Buck doesn’t end it for the same reason he didn’t end things with Taylor in season 5 - because Eddie is emotionally unavailable to Buck at that point in time and so physical intimacy is Bucks fail safe alternative and he doesn’t have to go seeking it out in mindless hook ups if he stays in a relationship even if it isn’t serving him.
That Eddie has himself gone down this route prior to all of this, because of the very fact Buck has come out and is now an option - his clinging to Marisol as a result - because Eddie would’ve broken up with Marisol if Buck hadn’t come out to him in that kitchen scene - it’s a pivotal moment for Buck and Eddies relationship - nothing changes because Eddie is having internalised gay panic over his best friend being an option and then not actually being available - Eddie reads Buck saying he cant stop thinking about Tommy as a rejection - he can obviously never feel about Eddie in that way and so Eddie must stick to what he has. It is no coincidence that Eddie is about to break up with Marisol a couple of episodes after he finds out Buck has ended things with Natalia - it is literally Buck and Eddie in the same pattern as we’ve seen them in since they met (well since Shannon died at least because I do think that there wasn’t enough before that point to begin that pattern we’ve seen since as they were still getting to know one another and the show was figuring out the dynamics for all the characters. I also remain convinced that when Tim talked about having to kill Shannon because there wasn’t anywhere to go with her at that point it was because they had decided there was enough interest in Buddie that they were pressing the green button on them being the big slow burn relationship for the show - I think they would’ve made Madney that slow burn will they wont they couple if Buddie hadn’t been coming over well as a potential with the audience! But that’s just my theory I have nothing to back it up beyond the way the story played out live and what Tim said in interviews at the time as well as vibes born of years of watching procedural tv!) It’s no coincidence that Eddie finds out about Marisols almost a nun, catholic past right after Natalia is no more, or that he asks her to move in right at a point where Tommy is very clearly flirting with him.
We all focus on Bucks jealousy etc from 704 - which we are meant to because we are seeing it from Bucks perspective, but its also being made very clear to us that Bucks jealousy has a good foundation and that Eddie is at least aware to a certain extent of it. We the viewer can read Eddie’s constant talking about Tommy this and Tommy that from Bucks perspective and it making him jealous, but we’re can also see it from Eddie’s perspective of him testing the waters with Buck - seeing what Bucks reaction to it all is. We will never know what would’ve happened if Eddie had been able to get to Buck before Tommy did and they’d actually been able to have a conversation about it - because Buck confessed to Eddie that he was on a date with Tommy before Eddie could have that conversation with him - which is how that kitchen talk could’ve played out had the Tommy kiss and date not happened.
There is also the fact that Eddies inability to grieve Shannon and their relationship properly is still very much in play -and how that impacts Buck, but that has been talked about to death so I dont want to get into it again!
All this to say that, yes I do think there is an element of 907 rehashing what we saw play out with Tommy over 8a (and a bit with 8b and the hook up as well) and I get why people feel aggrieved about it, but for me personally I think we’d have ended up with this arc regardless - I just think we’d have seen it play out a little bit differently if they’d been able to get Eddie to where they wanted him by the end of 8b as they had originally intended. Now we don’t know exactly where that would’ve been, but its safe to assume that he would’ve been a bit further along in his arc than he currently is. I think it was really smart to play the entire plot line out in the way they did and in the way you described - having the Jade first and then Zane second, dressing Zane very very very similarly to Tommy (all his outfits are basically Tommy outfits - right down to the black and red shot colouring of his date shirt matching the red and black shot Henley Tommy was wearing when he kissed Buck - both were tests - Tommy testing if Buck was into men and Zane testing if Buck would hook up with and then call him or Jade! And we revert to a black shirt with a black vest for the break up scene!). The entire thing was about calling back to Tommy and the fact he parallels with Abby and then playing into the fact that Buck never got given the full picture by any one of the 4 people from the outset and that his autonomy wasn’t respected in any way at all and so he couldn’t consent to what was happening to him (and this isn’t about Tommy kissing him - that part was fine, right up to the end of their date was all fine and as consensual as it could’ve been - I mean tommy could’ve asked to kiss Buck but that’s not really realistic and Tommy was telegraphing what he was going to do from the moment Buck said he was trying to get Tommys attention so that part is all fine for me from that perspective) that he was able to have that final scene where he turned them down and took ownership of his romantic endeavours is the key thing and the symbol of growth.
It feels very much like they’ve set Buck up through the parallels of Abby,Tommy, Jade and Zane, to finally spend some time actually figuring himself out and what it is he’s looking for and for him to click into understanding that he already has what it is he’s looking for. I haven’t had time to write my meta on the space arc, and how it all plots out the intended arcs for the characters for the season, but I will mention here that Buck is paralleled with Tricia who throughout her time in space, figures out what she has and what she wants romantically are not the same thing - that she is worth more than she has accepted and that she also has the tools to bring about change to her life. That’s the very brief version of her arc, but they show her actually managing to make that change in her life - from the things she learnt about herself, but also from what she already had. The shares are a metaphor for knowledge and internal power and that being what you need to bring about change. That the Jade and Zane plot for 907 also plays into that and emphasises Bucks repeated patterns is a really great thing from my perspective and one of the reasons I really enjoyed that plot (even as I hated having to actually watch Buck hooking up with people but that’s a Demi me thing!)
Thanks for the ask - it was a really great one and I hope my answer lives up to expectations 💜💜💜
1.) What do you think about the origin concept of Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd?
2.) What did you think of the overall game?
3.) Wouldn't Solas creating the Black City initiate that he's the Maker? In some way or form? Or at least some people might target the elves for there involvement with the Blights?
1.) There are some wild and fun ideas that I wish they had the time/resources to bring into the game. Like I wish the elves who sided with Solas were in the game.
I do miss the whole there is always one companion who'll betray you.
And I hope we get to find out what our companions are up to after the final fight. A truer epilogue. Though maybe we’ll get lucky, and they'll add something in a patch.
The book is expensive but gorgeous! I truly want to thank all the artists for their incredible work!
2.) My thoughts on the game could fill a couple pages but I’ll keep it short. I enjoyed the game! I liked that I got a conclusion to Solavellan. I liked that we got to see more of Thedas. Wish they didn’t sanitize the game like where is all the slavery in Tevinter, among other things. It did feel at times like things were missing in the romances and some quests, like they didn’t have time to add more. Nice to have book characters be so prominent like Strife, Assan, and Isseya. The game was beautiful, and we finally got photo mode. The armors in this game are so much fun! And so many lore questions were finally answered. Was it perfect? No, but overall, I liked it!
3.) That’s an interesting theory. I’m not sure like the Tevinter gods, the Maker ever actually existed. Or at least not in the way the Chantry preaches so he could be. Let be honest, racist a**holes are always going to target the elves for their problems. Humans need to have a reckoning and deal with the crap they are doing to elves. And stop using their religion as an excuse to be trash. Much like people irl.
Anyway, this is a long reply but thanks for the questions Anon! I like answering stuff like this.
youd be surprised at the behavior of some humans. anyways love u jumba <3
HAH! NO, NO, IS NOT SURPRISING. THERE ARE EXAMPLES OF SUCH IN MANY SPECIES ACROSS SPACE. BUT EVEN IN E.G.O. AND E.G.G.S. THERE IS AN UNDERSTANDING AND A BASIC RESPECT, EVEN IF LACK OF TRUE AWARENESS IN SOME REGARDS.
SUCH IS PRODUCT OF LOOKING AT EVERYTHING THROUGH SCIENFIC LENSES. AND NOT JUST PHYSICS AND CHEMISTRY AND BIOLOGY AND ALL THE STANDARD SCIENCES, NO! BEING GOOD- OR, PRECISE? YES, PRECISE EVIL GENIUS, REQUIRES UNDERSTANDINGS OF POLITICAL SCIENCES, SOCIAL SCIENCES, ALL AS SUCH.
IT IS JUST AS IMPORTANT AS THE TYPICAL SCIENCES.
CANNOT BE UNDERSTANDING HOW TO DISMANTLE A POLITICAL STRUCTURE OR CAUSE THE DOWNFALL OF A SOCIETY IF YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCES OF HOW THEY ARE WORKING, AND IT CAN VARY VERY MUCH FROM PLANET TO PLANET, EVEN UNDER GALACTIC FEDERATION.
WHEN YOU UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCES BEHIND IDENTITY AND THE IMPACT THEY MAY HAVE ON A SOCIETY, YOU GROW TO RESPECT IDENTITIES OF ALL KINDS FOR ALL KINDS OF SPECIES.
theres even more i havent saved >:]

So what are your top headcanons on Keira? Like I know a lot of people give her crap because of what happened in Jak 2 and how ND basically just nerfed her character in J3 only to make her more relevant in Jak X.
Número uno, I WILL return to this eventually because I'm not entirely done yet with the entire JND franchise and everything I am thinking about will probably become more solidified when I finish up 2-X. Número dos, when it comes to the "female character who often gets shafted by the narrative in a playstation game" category of character (kyrie devil may cry 4, kairi kingdom hearts), I will basically go right to their defense no matter what, so chances are I'll stick by Keira's side despite the character nerfing.
That being said, I do have some ideas....
Based on what I've played so far of Jak 2 + all of Jak 1, Keira was probably the most well set for acclimating to a 300+ year timeskip. She's a freakin mechanic and is skilled with her hands, so of course she picks up building as a job once she gets time skipped, and racing as well because that's popular at the time. I have a feeling if time shenanigans permit Keira was also the person who created the original prototype for the zoomers used in JND2 before the timeskip (kind of like how Elsie Bray/the Exo Stranger from Destiny 2 made the sparrow/bike prototypes in that game). She can fix and mod cars and probably is the one who modified Jak's main car in jak X to be a one seater instead of 2. She also has an interest in precursor tech and knows how some of that works, so hypothetically speaking she could pilot a mecha/gundam if she wanted to or incorporate it into her work. If the JND games didn't go the way that they did sequel wise, I think Keira would have definitely become a sage, but probably not the Green sage because she doesn't fall into the traditional "the party healer is a girl" trope (just like her dad) and is more of a technical person. My brain says blue eco.
Character dynamics wise... I don't know yet, but Keira might've been entirely by herself for 2 years out there in Haven working on the time machine zoomer thang alongside the racing gigs she did (not including the people Krew might've sent to her or Erol showing up to hit on her), which might've worn away at her spunk/made her more solitary by virtue of being by herself but she stays optimistic anyway. I do feel like she would be friends with Tess considering she's kind of "normal" and level headed compared to her old group (jak, dax, samos). Ashelin might intimidate her or awaken her bisexuality I dont make the rules, but also remember that I haven't beaten all the games and don't know if they actually all interact at least once in game. If they don't, that means more stuff for me to write!!!
Keira and Daxter would probably work together willingly, even though Dax annoys her. All I'm saying is if Keira had found out even earlier before the 2 year skip that Jak was being held captive in the palace, she would've inverse The Escapists that shit alongside Dax and try and break Jak out of there. She does know where the maintenance elevators are in the area, so a full blown heist doesn't seem too outlandish. She's still got spunk to her even after 2 years with none of her friends/loved ones around her, so she can banter for longer with Daxter if they got the time. Out of the original Sandover trio, she's the middle ground between Dax and Jak and their mediator. She isn't above duct taping Dax to the wall if anything gets too out of hand though
This part is gonna sound a little self-indulgent, but this is my house . Keira and Jak literally share interests so of course they're gonna be interested in eachother. Honestly I think Keira's the one wearing the pants between them, not because Jak doesn't take the initiative with her, but because he respects her and doesn't see a need to step in/insert himself into what she does. Same goes with Keira, there's mutual respect and they help each other out, but she is more outgoing than Jak is and can set him in the right direction if anything bad happens. She might not entirely understand what happened to Jak during those 2 years he was MIA, but she still tries to make sure he's OK/be a support system for him. Also they're bi4bi I again do not make the rules.
Everyone and their mother doesn't consider The L*st Frontier canon or that it ever happened but it's also where the heaviest redesign Keira has ever had comes from. I think it's actually kinda cute. Maybe the shirt she's wearing is an old shirt of Jak's, considering he was also an avid blue collared shirt wearer. IDK that's also very self indulgent for me LMAO
Last thing, there's no way that after a long time or working with heavy machinery and power tools that Keira isn't at least a little bit muscular. Just toned a liiiiiittle bit. Like she has her tummy and arms out, you can probably see some muscle definition through there, same with her back.
That should be everything... thank you for letting me run my mouth and I hope tumblr lets me post this LOL. Keira art will happen again soon i Swear
I'm soooo in love with this wip and can't wait to romance everyone!! Could I possibly get ROs reaction to MC wearing their clothes? 🥰🥰 (also I'd personally love it if you included JR in react asks, but if that's a lot of extra work no worries 💙)
Hi Anon,
I hope you're doing well today! I'm so glad that you're excited to romance all of them. :D <3
I will include JR on occasion, especially if their poly reaction differs significantly from the two alone, which it will on some occasions.
Middle romance stage.
(Spent like 15 minutes trying to find a gif of someone putting on a jacket, but I couldn't find one so... Vanessa Morgan looking gorgeous with a leather jacket seemed like a valid substitute???)
B is totally okay with it, but will try to wear clothing of yours in return or at least something that reminds them of you (e.g. your favorite color, an accessory, something you two bought together, etc). They would probably be okay sharing even during high friendship stage, though they get more bashful about it in romance. They would be touched that you would want to wear something of theirs.
S has altered a lot of their clothes with their own unique creative flair hence the metal work, distressed vibe, patches, etc. The fact you would want to wear something that is so tailored to them is taken as a compliment. They offer to make you your own or to blend some of their design aesthetic into your own style since they want you to be proud of the item that matches them. If you persist in wanting their clothes, S will let you wear them and may occasionally be caught giving you fond looks.
J is a little confused about it, if not bemused. You have your own style and clothes and they have theirs, but if it makes you happy, then they are totally fine lending you a soft plaid shirt or one of their jackets. They try to pick out colors you may like. It takes J a while to slowly realize it's not the fashion itself, but because the clothing is theirs and belongs to them are the reasons why you want to wear it. This realization makes them soft and likely occurs while they are at the station one day, so they need to take a second to sit down and process.
Their clothes? Oh, no you mean their wardrobe. At first, R may be caught off guard seeing you in their suit jacket or wearing one of their linen button downs, especially with how fastidious they are with keeping them wrinkle-free and dry cleaner cleaned. However, the fact that you would want to wear their clothes takes a second to process. They like it; they like you wearing something of theirs for others to see... It's hot to them. Also, sweet, but shh. They will suggest things for you, possibly turning it into a fashion show with how they urge you to try just one more thing, though know they will be your biggest fan.
A combination of the J and R reactions will comprise the JR one, except R wearing something of J's would cause J to do a complete double-take that R would delight in. J is the least likely between the three of you to share in the clothing exchange with R being second given their style, though R would do it to mess with J and possibly speed along their slow realization. XD
