Cwm Idwal - 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Wales ⠀⠀ Cwm Idwal is a cirque found in Snowdonia National Park in North Wales. A incredible example of the effects of glaciation, so lots of fun for people who enjoy geology or geography like me! The lake formed in the trough is known as Llyn Idwal. This is my favourite place in the UK! I feel Wales is often overlooked but it’s a stunning country that I’ve always enjoyed visiting. An inspiring drive through the mountains holds some spectacular views and the hike to the lake itself is fairly easy, and extremely rewarding. ⠀⠀ On a rainy day, small waterfalls form on the sheer cliffs, while clouds roll along the dramatic, dark rock backdrop of the lake, creating a hauntingly beautiful sight. On a clear day, facing north, you can see out to sea by looking down the Nant Ffrancon Pass (valley), and can just imagine the vast amounts of ice that were once held here. Visited: Several times, the most recent being July 2018. ⠀⠀ Fun fact: Moist air that comes into contact with the sheer cliffs is forced upwards where it condenses, and forms swirling clouds. This has led to the nickname the Devil’s Kitchen.
