Forgot to post these pieces of Albert and Greta back from July.
Thereās also a comparison with the graphic novel designs. Iām keeping mine, but I liked the pajamas tho!
LLTPQ: How the twist dismisses the purpose of Sallyās origin story.
I wanted to discuss how Ernshaw giving Sally biologically parents defeats the purpose of Sallyās origin story in the film. By giving Sally ragdoll parents, itās clear Ernshaw did not understand the theme of Sallyās origin story.
In the film, Finklestein feels as if he owns Sally, almost like property due to him creating her. Yet, Sally has a fully developed conscious, just like the rest of the individuals in Halloween Town and deserves the right to autonomy despite her being one of Finklesteinās experiments.
Finklesteinās overprotective behavior towards Sally is a repeating conflict in the film. Sally is constantly fighting against the control of her creator. Sally is ready to experience the outside world while Finklestein doesnāt want this as Sally was created to be Finklesteinās caregiver. Sheās not allowed to be anything else and that left her depressed and relating to Jackās own desire for something more.
In relation to Jack, Jack learned his lesson that he desired true connection. Someone who saw him for who he is and not simply his title as Pumpkin King. In the same way, Sally desires the same connection and doesnāt want to be soley defined and restricted as Finklesteinās caregiver. Additionally, Jack can provide support to Sally and itās not one sided unlike Finklestein and Sally. They arenāt defined by their titles and they see each other as who they really are and both pour into each otherās metaphorical cup.
By giving Sally parents, it dismisses the filmās deeper message about Sally and her origins. Instead LLTPQ writes Sally with the same dilemma she has in the film. Sheās defined by her role as queen which causes Sally to ponder her abilities and who she is, leaving her insecure. Writing Sally this way literally erases one of the overarching messages of the film and a key part of Sallyās story that made her important and stand out in the film.
LLTPQ gives Sally parents as a solution to her internal dilemma. It ends up undermining Jackās importance in their relationship as well. Jackās film progress is non-existent and he ignores Sally when They Mayor scrambles for Jackās attention. Sally doesnāt feel at home or feel her title fits her yet Iād say that film Sally felt just fine in Halloween Town.
While a partner is not everything, Jack indirectly helps Sally prove that she is capable of handling things on her own and is there to support her. Sally is there to support Jack and they both provide support that pushes them to self-improve and come out of their shells. Jack helps Sally find freedom away from being Finklesteinās caregiver.
Then LLTPQ claims what Sally needed was parents and to make her origins related to Dream Realm. This dismisses everything the film was trying to convey to the audience about Sally. Due to Ernshawās personal dislike of Sallyās origins, she decided to rewrite Sallyās origins without encapsulating the same message the film was trying to convey.
Honestly I thought that everyone just decided to forget about LLTPQ, like a pact saying that this book never existed, because it's the logical thing since it doesn't add much to the story, at least for me.
I read it a long time ago and it was... Meh, I didn't feel anything significant, there's fanfics that are better than that.
I don't think that anyone who loves TNBC or likes it needs that sequel, if I wanted one, there's the videogame of Oogie's Revenge or the videogame prequel of The Pumpkin King.

The only thing it needs to be remembered for is the part where Sally fondles the queen.
Do you guys think thereās a sex shop in Valentineās Day Town?
Ruby Valentino handing Jack a strap-on: āHere. You might need this for Sally.ā
Jack, completely dumbfounded: āWhy on earth would I need this?ā
Ruby: āWell, youāre a skeleton, right? You donāt have aā¦ā *Gestures to the lower half of his body.*
Jack: āI literally eat, drink, sleep, walk, and can do just about everything a normal skeleton canāt do. Why are you doubting my abilities?ā

My take on Queen Ruby Valentino from Long Live the Pumpkin Queen š
Canāt believe Sally killed the queen herself
āYou are the Pumpkin Queen, Sally. You can do whatever you want.ā
