Why hello friends, feels like its been a while aye.
Any who, i have landed in the middle of woop woop in West Wales.
My coach bus from London to Cardiff was delayed an hour which is the time i allowed to get from the bus station to the train station. I missed my train and caught the next one which was 40 minutes later, however, the last bus to woop woop had already been. (Oh pooh!)
I knew this possibility could happen and mentally prepared myself to sleep at the station or find a hostel. Very kindly, the family of the farm drove 50 bloody kilometres to come pick me up. They really shouldnt have (50km isn't a quick drive) but they're real nice.
Oh gosh, I'm tired.
So i arrived and was fed and we watched Australian Masterchef (to which they love and to which i am not allowed to spoil as ive seen all the episodes oops).
The next morning, woke up at 7, had breakfast (just cereal) at 7.30 then started working at 8.
Its not like the work is hard, but it is tiring. I was picking chillies in a small area (it looked small to me) for two hours and i think my knees are bruised now from all the pressure on my knees.
A half hour break to have a coffee (i really wanted a nap though) then more work. This involved salad picking and the likes. My mind is fuzzled with what i did when and what but lunch came and we had soup.
Picked some kale and cabbages and more salad and then made boxes for the box scheme. The box scheme is the farms main income (i think). You order a small or large box. 10 quid is a small box but its packed with salad, onions, potatoes, carrots and many other goodies which are all organic. The boxes have a standard item list but people who order them may be like “no potatoes” so then you substitute with something else to the same value or “extra chillies” so you charge them extra for the amount they want.
Its really good value. The box is PACKED, its about $20aud and its organic which is unbelievable PLUS its delivered?
Blows my mind.
Anyways, it was a VERY long day with lots of mud. I am extra tired because i played tickles with their daughter and many other games (shes real cute).
Its kinda nice though. Tiring but you feel fit doing it? Its hard to appreciate the scenery when you're exhausted but i took about 10 seconds to stop and stare and went “oh hey, not bad”.
Hopefully i can build up stamina so i wont feel so tired but it seems most of us are tired around the same time so maybe I'm not as physically incompetent as i thought.
Also, its real nice to be around people who are about the environment, who care about similar issues and are trying to make a difference. Ive had to follow all these slight rules whilst travelling but now i can embrace old eco habits (like composting and using natural things to shower).
