Spoilers for THE THING from LL13

I dont think Tailgate is actually dead, based on how we see Fort Max and co. react. (This is combined with other people’s theories that the stuff going on around the ship isn’t real.)

Would your reaction to seeing a friend’s remains be “I…don’t think any of us were expecting that”? Of course not. You’d be horrified. You’d be sad.

I’m not expecting Fort Max to be as dramatic as Cyclonus, but I amexpecting something a little more than a head tilt and “huh.”

Even if Fort Max was just caught off guard, I can’t imagine his reaction would be so…mild. Everyone looks mostly confused or concerned, but not reacting with the gut wrenching horror of “oh god, this guy buried himself alive to try and cure himself but instead died a gruesome death”.

“I…don’t think any of us were expecting that” is the build up to a punchline. To Tailgate doing a dance, or an “IOU one bot” sign, or a tunnel in the bottom of the box where Tailgate dug himself out like a moleman. Not to a death.
