Apple of My Eye By Allie Marie ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 📚ARC REVIEW -Thank you to @alliewrites_ for sending me an advance copy in exchange for an honest review! 🍎Ugh, this sweet story is too cute. 🍎Our two main characters, Sam and Juliet are rival teachers with completely different teaching styles. Sam is a go-with-the-flow kind of guy whereas Juliet is as Type-A as you can get. 🍎When we first meet them, they butt heads and can't get along. But when Juliet needs his assistance creating a grant application video, they begin to realize the other one wasn't so bad. Their love story is so sweet and fun to read about. 🍎There were many aspects I enjoyed about this book in addition to the romcom, one of the students, Mason, comes from a rough family dynamic, and Sam guides and mentors him. I'm Glad My Mom Died By Jennette McCurdy ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I wasn't a big fan of iCarly when it was on and I was too old when Sam and Cat premiered, but learning about this side of Jennette McCurdy made me so incredibly sad for her. She's not much older than me and all she ever wished for was a normal life. The most interesting piece was finding out she never wanted to act. It was her mom's dream and she wanted to make her happy. Can you imagine how different her life may have been? I won't go into the details due to spoilers, but I cannot imagine living my childhood and early twenties as she had. This book is called I'm Glad My Mother Died because of the manipulation and abuse she suffered at the hands of her mom, but it goes into how she was abused and hurt by so many others. I loved when she called out how kind Miranda Cosgrove was to her. Miranda is the kind of friend we all want when we're at our lowest. Forever, Interrupted By Taylor Jenkins Reid ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Libby app fully dictated when I read this story and I don't regret giving in. Forever, Interrupted is about a whirlwind romance lasting six months. Elise and Ben meet and elope within that time. However, Ben is tragically killed nine days after their ceremony. The story follows Elise's methods of coping and getting to know the mother-in-law she never met. Both have lost their husbands and most of their relationship is them supporting and being supported. I loved this story so much. The plot was heavy, but filled with a back and forth telling of how Elise and Ben's relationship progresses and how she works through her new life once he's gone. The Ex Talk By Rachel Lynn Solomon Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🎙It took me about a week to get through this book between audio, e-book, and physical copy. Overall I enjoyed the book. I remember how popular it was when it came out and it's been in the back of my mind to read it ever since. 🎙The story flows rather nicely, but somewhere around 60%, it begins to feel repetitive and the plot is drawn out longer than I think it needs to be. I skimmed a bit around here before it picked back up. 🎙Shay and Dominic are the classic enemies-to-lovers who are forced to work on a project together and inevitably fall in love. Shay thinks Dominic is arrogant, but there's a small part of her that wants to know him better. The internal struggle she has to let that wall down lasts well into the book. 🎙I enjoyed the public radio aspect of this and think I'll be putting NPR on later for the "soothing journalistic lullaby". Book Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The House on Mango Street By Sandra Cisneros I enjoyed reading this series of vignettes. They each told their own story and gave context to the upbringing of the author who said she wrote these based on her life and those around her. It was an interesting insight and I always enjoy learning more about authors and their lives especially when we see it reflected in their writing. While each story was individual, it was easy to piece the bigger picture together. It was essentially a detailed journal and personal account of growing up Hispanic-American in Chicago during the 1980s. I wouldn't say it's a page-turner, but each story is so descriptive and beautifully written that you'll find yourself immersed in many of them. Book Review - Every Summer After By Carley Fortune ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 I originally had no interest in reading this novel but put it on hold a few weeks ago. I thought it'd be a few months before I got my copy and didn't think much else until it popped up, ready to be delivered to my Kindle. I consumed this story in less than two days. It's a past and present story, showing us what it was like when the two main characters met at thirteen and how they overcame the biggest mountain they'd endured at thirty. They spent ten years not talking, but are still so infatuated with one another. The story was so sweet, had a few plot twists, and made me so giddy at the end. It reminded me a lot of The Summer I Turned Pretty and many other readers of Love and Other Words (I guess that will be one of my next reads). This was such a perfect book to end July and now I want to spend my summers living in a cottage in Barry's Bay, Ontario.
