ever since SM nuked exo and nct, the entire boy group side of kpop feels so strange and fully tipped out of equilibrium, am i the only one? far less energy, no fics no juice everywhere, hardly any bg songs become timeless staples despite - or due to - companies having bigger budgets and ample technology (making exo's discography even more god tier in retrospect, and every day another old nct video snippet goes viral). the momentum and rapid-fire comebacks that hooked, hypnotized, fascinated, fully drew entire fandoms into month-long frenzy, youtube binges, and an airtight parallel universe are mostly gone. we desperately need a new impulse or new superstars to fly us out to a different planet again because right now kpop is near empty? i'm talking like a revamped fun video format, a new a+ variety show with homoerotic boomer hosts inviting all the groups out there and showcasing the member's artistic talents. where are they?
i love that the female/genderless/co-ed side is going super strong and drops things more consistenly with XG, XLOV and aespa on a roll, the ladies and lgbts shining bright and flying their own spark for longer than just one summer is truly overdue - whereas the other side feels like it's 70%... collapsed? no attention span, no arc? the untouchables (shinee, bts) and skz at full force can carry a lot of it but even there i observed slightly less of an ongoing buzz compared to the pre-pandemic days which is sad. that pillar is not eroding but way smaller since the collective bg dynamic is so dispersed (see e.g. seventeen, i miss them). c'mon i need monsta x to do an action movie, amp it up TXT, throw out another god's menu level hit bangchan, spice up the hair colors taehyung, go off kai do your thing and shake it what are we doing. cause this is what happens when you chuck the fucking engine (baekhyun) out of the entire car, the other parts stop working too
