⏳ porhaps about his earliest feelings being awake/alive if bubs even remembers that ╱ @literanis
They haven't really talked since ... well ... their situation was complicated. There was a time where the dusk god and the dawn god were reborn as new entities, and the young dusk god felt nothing but deep admiration for the new dawn god. Not that he'd ever admit to that- he'd rather go through the agonizing experience of Chaos rotting his flesh than ever admit to something soft.
Still, Lucilius asks, and there's a part of him that can't keep quiet, much as he wished to.
Hesperus never stopped adoring Lucilius, even if Beelzebub wanted his head on a pike.
❝ Weren't you there for that? We were awake at the same time, shaped for the same purpose as our predecessors. Or were you already too caught up in your research? ❞
❝ You were curious from the start. I was curious in my own way, but I sought different things. We were made to compliment each other. ❞
Hello, Hesperus.
Shalem's voice is soft and gentle. She looks at him like he's something precious to be protected. She looks at him like he's this perfect work of art, and it's because he is. He is too naive and inexperienced to understand that perfection is a limit.
Welcome to existence. You are awake now, and there is much to experience in the vast skies. I think there is much that you will learn to love. You are made in my image, to take on my role. You are a catalyst, divine portent, and you are perfect. Even so, my wish for you is that you will become even more.
❝ My creator wished for me to grow and change. While she spoke of perfection, in the same breath she urged me to find more. I looked for ... inspiration in that change. I lacked understanding in what it meant to need growth. It seemed that altering my form was not enough. ❞
Lucilius was beautiful clad in white and gold. Hesperus made note of a strange contrast between that and the rather evident flaws in the other being. Lucilius' flaws seemed to be a source of growth in their own ways. Those flaws drove him to understand more. To strive for more. Lucilius seemed ... discontent with the way things were. Lucilius shaped new entities. Hesperus wished that the young dawn would simply turn around and look at him and maybe find all the answers he needed.
❝ Your purity was dazzling. I was left in awe of it and had little understanding of why. There was nothing that you had that I did not possess, but you continued to strive for more. I realized then that there was something. I did not possess flaws. I was golden and perfect and it was tragic. Even the smallest insect had the potential for growth, where I had nothing more to strive for. ❞
Look at me, Hesperus wished to scream as he writhed in pain. Look at me and know what I have done. I did it for you, because we were supposed to complete each other.
Lucilius watched with a cold, clinical stare. He did not praise the dusk god for his efforts. He took notes of the iron wings. Hesperus felt rage, found that he could no longer look Lucilius in the eyes.
Instead, he considered taking one of those blades and driving it into the soft, pale flesh of Lucilius' throat. Then, he'd watch the other lay there and choke. He'd resist offering a hand to help.
❝ I am able to grow now, and I have. I should thank you for that. I am no longer shackled by limits. You showed me that it was the nature of imperfection that would allow a being to rise above its predestined potential. ❞
