Sam Winchester our orthorexia queen
oh orthorexic shane hollander what you mean to me
Currently baking gingernut biscuits to coax me out of my procrastination.
I haven't had these in years tbh because I used to buy gingernut biscuits from the store but then my orthorexia started and it's just impossible for me to buy ready made food from the store now.
I've managed to trick myself into eating any homemade desserts though. Usually only in small portions and then I feel bad about it later.
But, hey, at least my cooking skills are superb now.

Hey so, I'm saying this out of nothing but goodwill but if you are counting calories and/or strictly regimenting your diet due to obsessing over your physical health/fitness that's still an eating disorder. Please look into orthorexia
Gang, is it orthorexic to track my cake? 🤪
Seriously, though, I appreciate the concern, but it's not like that. Counting calories and being mindful of macros is not disordered. My eating and exercise habits are not strictly regimented nor obsessive. This attitude contributes to a dismissive idea of what eating disorders entail and downplays their severity. A person actually suffering from orthorexia would be in distress about many of the treats (and some regular foods) I enjoy and appalled at my average step count.
Fic recommendation!
grocery store list, now you get this by tomatosoup28
5.4k, Sam & Dean, Dean POV age 4 to 22
Summary: Five times Dean Winchester goes grocery shopping. (Sam is almost always there.)
My notes: Some cute weechesters that touches on the fear of spending/prices. Sam has some disordered eating/orthorexia in one scene too
thanks for talking about orthorexia, i developed it as a teen because of how i was treated due to ARFID. i was constantly being reminded of how unhealthy i was and how terrible my diet is and how i need to gain weight. forced daily weigh ins and calorie counting is so so crushing on a 9 year old child, people don't tend to take my orthorexia seriously because they see my obsessions and distress as entirely warranted and actively discourage me every time i try to recover because they think it will hurt my ARFID recovery (even tho i don't think i'll ever fully recover from ARFID only manage it better but to everyone around me i'll always be in recovery)
I’m so sorry to hear that you had such a terrible time in treatment! From what I’ve heard, a lot of ED-specific programs can be kind of a double-edged sword. Many generalized mental health settings are not equipped to truly support ongoing ED treatment, but a lot of ED treatment programs are trying to treat an umbrella of disorders with a one-size-fits-all approach. This can be especially true of inpatient ED facilities, where strict rules are enforced that kind of encompass all the different eating disorders at once, so one person might be hearing advice or following rules that are not beneficial to them just because those same rules work for someone else’s ED. It sucks because a lot of people with eating disorders really do need these programs to heal.
I don’t think you necessarily have to “cure” your ARFID. I’m pretty sure that most people with ARFID don’t go on to be totally “fixed” since the root causes, like sensory issues, don’t totally go away. But you can expand your list of safe foods and keep your fears to a lower level, and if you need to incorporate some foods others consider “imperfect” to do that, you are doing the right thing for you.
