I just know Pony was inconsolable after reading Where the red fern grows…
No I’m not projecting. Don’t touch me. But he does canonically enjoy dog books, at least Jack London… so all I’m saying…

who the hell let me into an english class?? I keep trying to write reasonable length essays only for them to turn into fucking behemoths
like, essay is just "compare these three texts" and i'm just like that's crazy ! do you want to hear about how masculinity alienates men from society because that's what Marx was talking about in his book metamorphosis and man
High school can actually be fun, if the teacher is willing to make it fun, and the students accept it and don't try to be "too cool or not cringe"
One of my fondest memories of high school is when we read Beowulf. We still had to go through the poem, do the analysis, ect, but instead of a boring essay, our teacher had us write and present a long epic speech about ourselves, as if we were old Nordic heros in a mead hall.
And she secretly assigned students different times in the day, two per day, for weeks. When the time came, that student would leap up, interrupt the class, and give a roaring speech about how awesome they were. Not only that, but our teacher encouraged us to make dramatic interuptions. The band and theater kids got super creative. One kid had his band classmates burst in the class with trumpets and perform a musical introduction for him. This one kid on the football team had his teammates burst in, in full uniform, heave him up on someone's shoulders and circle them, chanting his name. There were musical serenades, spotlights, other classes and some teachers participating....it was sheer chaos and it was wonderful. Some kids dressed up, some danced on desks, ect.
That is how you teach high school lit
