I don't watch a lot of Game Grumps - in a large part because of the overly edgy and outright bigoted senses of humor from most of the crew involved - but also they just aren't very good at figuring out what kind of games work best with the style of videos they make.
The Grumps have made it pretty clear they're a comedy channel first and a gaming channel second. They are trying to cultivate a specific "riffing at a game with your friends on a couch" kind of atmosphere, which works in the context of casual party games and sports games and the like, but basically the instant you try to do that with a game that has any narrative or themes it presents with any seriousness they become unbearably frustrating. Their incessant need to Do Bits often detracts from their engagement with the game.
It sucks being a fan of a game where all the people making Let's Plays are just terrible at the game.
I've expressed before my distaste for people watching a video essay on a game instead of playing it (only if they see that as a valid replacement for playing it, or try to speak on it with authority, the action of watching a video on a game you dont intend to play isn't bad inherently) but I have more mixed feelings about lets plays/long plays. I'm not entirely sure where they would fall, and while obviously not as good as playing it... I'm not sure. On one hand, I can see the argument that it's similar to an audiobook, a form of media im a big supporter of, but unlike an audio book you're loosing a massive part of the experience with a game (the... game bit). Idk. This was a lot of words to not say that much, but that's kind of my brand, so whatever.
I wish there were more Pokémon Let's Plays in the style of an Undertale/Deltarune Let's Play where they act out all the dialogue in distinct character voices in a performance because seeing them barely emote while reading it in their normal voice - assuming they even take the time to read it out loud at all and don't just blitz through the dialogue - really takes the fun out of watching people play these kinds of games. And I mean this for the older games too. I want to see LPs of Pokémon Red/Blue or Gold/Silver in this style too, not just the modern Switch games. And the remakes.
