Czocha Castle
Czocha Castle is located in the village of Czocha in Lesna, Poland. The defensive castle was built upon gneiss rock on the edge of Lake LeÅ›nia. Czocha Castle served as a stronghold along the Czech-Lusatian border in the mid-13thcentury. The complex became part of the dukedom of Henry I of Jawor, and exchanged hands numerous times among noble families during its history. During the Hussite Wars in the early 15thcentury, the castle was besieged and captured for a period of time. In 1453, the castle was purchased by the von Nostitz family who owned it for 250 years. The von Nostitz remodeled the castle several times and the castle walls were reinforced during the Thirty Years War. In 1793, the castle burned in a fire. In 1909, a major remodel on the castle was initiated by then owner, Ernst Gutschow. After WWII, the castle was plundered several times and housed refugees from Greece. In 1952, Czocha Castle was taken over by the Polish Army and used as a military vacation resort. In 1995, the castle opened as a hotel and conference center. The hotel rooms are decorated with period accessories. The castle boasts a wine bar, a café, and a restaurant. The interior has a Knights Hall, a marble hall, and a library with a secret room hidden behind one of the wall panels. Recently the castle added a fully immersive wizarding college for Harry Potter fans.Â
