If your reasoning for thinking caitvi isn't "proper lesbian representation" has ANYTHING to do with them having to be a specific level of 'pure, healthy, unproblematic, nontoxic, etc', I have some bad news for you.
You have fallen for the homophobic demands of society that you have to be a well-behaved little gay in order to not stir the pot and coexist with the heteros among you. You have inadvertently convinced yourself that queer rep has to be held to higher standards in order to be acceptable for the masses to consume. And what a fucking goddamn shame that is.
Queer people should be allowed to be as messy, complicated, and human as anyone else.
Do not allow yourself to be manipulated into thinking a queer person has to be on their best behavior in order to be loved and admired.
Ykw I realized is I don’t think I’ve ever seen a lesbian/sapphic show take over the internet in quite the same way that gay shows have (like heated rivalry and heartstopper for example). There’s been plenty of iconic sapphic couples in tv shows but they’re only really talked about in sapphic circles (shera, the owl house, killing eve, yellowjackets, etc). The closest I can really think of is Arcane, but that was more so the show itself and not the lesbian relationship, not to mention how much hate said relationship got in s2. Maybe I’m missing something but I feel like every prominent queer show that breaks into mainstream is mlm, and that’s kinda sad. Not to say these mlm shows aren’t great (I love heartstopper), I just wish sapphics got more representation in the same way queer men do. I absolutely love and appreciate the rep we do have though, even if the general public doesn’t care about them.
you all need to stop shouting so much about byler (IT MIGHT STILL BE CANON complain all you want after the finale) and stop freaking ignoring the lesbian rep completely. Vickie and Robin are such a good couple and Robin is such a good example of accepting your own identity AND of wlw mlm solidarity and yet. There’s still this fucking stupid mindset of favorising mlm ships over wlw.
And yes, I know it’s often because of male characters being written better and more in depth than female characters (which is OUTRAGEOUS in itself btw) but not this time. This time you get two, very epic not fetishised canonically lesbian characters and you just. Don’t talk about them at all.
I’m not saying to stop shipping byler and only ship rockie. I love byler too. But im so sick of seeing posts like “oh so when it’s a homosexual character they can’t be happy/in a relationship” because like… Robin’s right there????
tldr lesbians are important. lesbian rep is important. don’t ignore us, respect us, acknowledge us.
