A birthday gift for a friend who has become (rightfully) obsessed with my necromancy wizard.
Impressed by the flight suit advancements made in nine years. Leonov crew serves
Also really really funny thing I just noticed is that in 2001 Frank and Dave get these really impressive futuristicy (probably expensive) watches and for 2010 “everyone gets a Casio”
Orbital Sunrise
Alexei Leonov
1965 uhhhhh, space
Color pencil on paper
I love the story behind this work, that this astronaut quickly sketched a delightful and simple view of what this orbital Sunrise from space looked like. Also, the art that it inspired is gorgeous too.
Four heroes in one photo: Vladimir Komarov, Pavel Belyayev, Alexei Leonov, Yuri Gagarin
Chkalovsky Air Base, 1964

56 years ago, Soviet-Russian Strela “Arrow” chronograph The Russian cream dial pilot chronograph was used by Voskhod 2 cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Pavel Belyayev. However, both cosmonauts wore the Russian-made chronograph underneath their Berkut “Golden Eagle” spacesuit so the wristwatch was not really directly exposed to the harsh outer space environment. Here’s a 1963 example of the 33 mm white dial 36 mm case manual winding chronograph with a Sokol spacesuit glove as background. Note the blue telemeter and red tachymeter on the edge of the dial. The 19 jewels caliber 3017 Strela was made by the 1st Moscow Watch company and 1964 onwards issued to cosmonauts. It became known as the Soviet-Russian Speedmaster. Caliber 3017 was made from 1959 to 1979. (Photo: MoonwatchUniverse)
