āCan you get up? Please donāt make me drag you.ā
-- @aliceinwhumperlandās whump words of the day
I donāt even ship Leoncelot but I have binge read so much by @gremlinbehaviour recentlyĀ that this just happened...
Lancelotās yell echoed around the clearing as Leon collapsed, and he attacked the two bandits cornering him up against a tree with renewed vigour. One fell to his blade and the other turned and fled.
Lancelot looked around the clearing, ensuring there were no more men hiding behind trees or in the undergrowth. No, they were alone. He let his grip on his sword loosen and hurried to Leonās side.
Leon had taken a particularly nasty hit from a large bandit whilst his back was turned fighting another man. The large banditās axe had bitten deep into Leonās side, slicing through chainmail to cut into his waist. Of course that hadnāt stopped the First Knight, who quickly defeated the bandit he had been fighting before whirling around to slash his sword across the chest of the large bandit. Only once both threats had been dispatched had Leon faltered and fell.
Lancelot rolled Leon onto his back, not liking the sluggish way Leonās eyes tracked up to his face, or the fact that the ground beneath him was looking horribly red.
āThey gone?ā Leon slurred.
āTheyāre gone,ā Lancelot reassured him, pulling the sliced edges of Leonās chainmail apart to get a look at his side.
Leon flinched and groaned. Lancelot apologised but continued peeling Leonās shirt away. The wound was deep. Yanking off his cloak, Lancelot pressed the red cloth to Leonās side, pressing as hard as he dared.
āHow bad?ā Leon ground out between gritted teeth, trying to lift his head and look.
Lancelot placed a gentle hand on his forehead and pushed him back down, his fingers tangling in the blond curls.
āBad enough, weāll need to get you to Gaius soon.ā
Lancelot didnāt want to worry Leon but he was not happy about how the blood was seeping through his cloak. He needed to get him to Gaius now. He pulled the two ends of the cloak free from the wadded part covering the wound, winding them around Leonās torso to hold it all in place.
He had to lift Leon to get the cloak bandage around his back and Leon groaned and let out a whimper as he did so, curling away from Lancelotās hands.
Lancelotās heart ached, he hated to see his friend flinching from his touch, when usually he accepted it so readily. He murmured apologies as he tied the ends of the cloak together, pulling it tight.
Leon cried out, his back arching slightly with the pain before he collapsed back down. Lancelot pulled him to his chest, cradling Leonās head and shoulders.
āItās alright, youāll be alright,ā he muttered, hoping like hell he was right. Leon blinked up at him, pain clear in his eyes.
āThank you, Lancelot.ā
āOf course.ā Lancelot let his head bow, his forehead pressing against Leonās for a moment before he straightened. āNow, can you get up? Please donāt make me drag you.ā He said the last line with a half hearted grin, trying to make Leon believe it was just a joke. But he knew if it came to it, he would definitely drag Leon if that was the only way to get him back to Camelot now.
Leon let out a little puff of a laugh, even though it looked like it hurt.
Lancelot stood, griping Leonās arm to help him up. Leon stumbled as he got his feet under him, but Lancelot put an arm around his back to steady him and lift him as his long legs straightened, sending his tall frame into a slouched standing position.
Leon leaned heavily against Lancelotās shoulder, which wasnāt made easier by the fact he was quite a bit taller than the other knight. But Lancelotās hands were strong and steady where they supported him, guiding his arm around his shoulders.
āThatās it,ā he coaxed gently. āNow, letās get you back home.ā
āI canāt, I āā Leon staggered, his legs wobbling and only Lancelotās strength kept him from crumpling back to the ground.
āIāll drag you,ā Lancelot threatened lightly.
āIām gonna fallā¦ā Leonās voice had gone quiet and slurred. Lancelot tightened his grip around him, trying to keep his hands away from the cloak tied around his middle.
āJust focus on your feet, one in front of the other,ā he told Leon softly. āIāll keep you up.ā
It turned out that he did end up nearly dragging Leon, whose clumsy feet merely staggered beneath him as Lancelot held him up.
