Yet another completed spinning project. The fiber was a batt of Polwarth, merino, and silk from Hopkins Fiber Studio. For the larger skein of yarn, I spun the singles on my Lendrum Saxony with my superfast flyer and plied on my Daedalus Sparrow. For the smaller skein, I did everything on my Daedalus Sparrow. (It's test drive.)
My husband got me a spinning wheel for the holidays (he is, in fact, the best):
(pardon our ashy woodstove; it is our main source of heat so it gets lots of use)
So I took some old, old merino (maybe merino blend?) roving I've had for several years and set to work!
I'm nowhere near good yet, quite clearly, but that's to be expected. The dark reddish one was my very first attempt, the blue my second, and the white my third. I'm debating plying the blue and white together just to see how they look.
There's so much over-twisting, and not enough consistent drafting (those long-staple fibers made it so difficult, and I'm sure the age of the rovings did not help), but considering I've seen some art yarn that's more or less like this, I imagine there are people out there who'd love it! My goals are to be able to get consistent and be able to make plys (single ply is not my personal preference) in heavier weights. You see so much fingering weight out there, but I just love worsted and aran. When I'm happier with my skeins, I'd love to offer them for sale along with the finished knit and crochet items I make (as well as spin for myself, of course).
Overall, while it's frustrating to not know enough to know whether I'm under-twisting or over-twisting and how to correct that and remember to do everything all at once that I need to do… I still made what is essentially functional yarn! And that by itself is exciting. I'm very much looking forward to this next fiber journey.
Sewing has cut into my spinning time a bit, but I did manage to finish about 300ish yards if this orange-reddish worsted 3ply. #makeyarn #spinning #handspun #handspunyarn #spinningwheel #lendrum https://www.instagram.com/p/Chw_EKbr327/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Freshly spun and plied Cotswold/Cormo blend on my new Lendrum
It's been a while since I have done any spinning. I fixed that today.
