gentle robot zenyatta finds a hurt birb, Genji, who cannot speak but is hurt.

he heals it and protects it from predators without wishing for anything back and Genji sticks around even after he’s healed because he enjoys zenyatta’s presence and he looks like he can understand zenyatta

then something really bad happens and something big and mean attacks them and is intent on getting tiny birb Genji, and to protect him, Zen takes a lasting damage that makes it shut down and the last thing he sees is the tiny birb peeping and Zen tells him he's so glad the birb is safe, and that now he'll be able to fly free even if they are to be separated.

as he is shutting down, the tiny birb glows and suddenly there’s no more birb there but a person, and it’s revealed the birb Genji was a person who had been cursed.

and genji cups zen’s face as he’s shutting down and tell him that in the time they were together, he’s fallen for him and he should stay with him so they can be happy. only it’s too late and zen shuts down.

genji, refusing to believe this, decides to carry zen’s body to a witch to ask for a way to have him alive again, and the witch reveals that zenyatta is not dead but simply dormant, depleted because of the wound, and he needs energy to repair his core

so genji has to go through a quest, fairy-tale like, to find the magic water that can give energy to zenyatta’s core, and when he finds it, zenyatta is awakened from his slumber and they are happy ever after

the curse was one both genji and his brother had been hit by, because they were both selfish princes.

Genji was cursed so that only if someone were to care for him selflessly without caring for who he was, without expecting anything back and without genji able to talk or reveal it was due to a curse that he could be saved

meanwhile hanzo's curse is that he would need to care for someone else instead of himself to be removed of his own curse

so consider follow up idea of tiny birb hanzo finding mccree and at first trying to fake-care for him to break the curse, then realising he can’t do it like this and then being afraid he’ll never break the curse ever because he’s selfish and he’ll never see his bro ever again to atone for dragging him into the curse with him, only to then break the curse because he truly comes to care for mccree’s company
