He really dislikes how respected and admired Lee is despite his... general dumbassery, but he's not going to make a fuss of it so is just kind of rude to him. He wants to consider it simply a stroke of luck that he put those words in that order and made something that sounds passable, deep down he knows its not and that Lee truly is INTELLIGENT, he's just... dumb. Even more so when he sees how eloquently written Lee's letters are. Maybe he just finds it easier to get his thoughts down on paper than he does speaking casually. Maybe it's rehearsed. Whatever it is, Adams is really damn jealous of him lol
I think he finds it most irritating that Lee is generally more well-liked than he is, but I think he'd realise it was because of his personality rather than the quality of his words... After all, why should that matter in Congress?! just because lee is nicer than adams is, shouldn't determine anything... Adams is just slightly bitter about it I think. its sorta cute. lee has no idea and will continue writing however he feels like and adams can just kinda stare at him in envy lmao
