“It really does. I’m a lot wiser than I ever have been,” He started solemnly, but it was such a load of bullshit that even Lee knew it, and he let out a bark of laughter.
“You know, I don’t actually know,” He replied, the answer a weird sort of honest for the situation. Sure, he could find out. He was sure his mum and dad would’ve tracked down a birth certificate once they formally adopted him. But he’d never wanted to ponder on how it all went down, the technicalities of it all. All he knew was he was one of the luckiest guys on the island, to have been found on the side of that road by Nancy. But he didn’t offer any of that, simply offering, “I’m adopted,” as explanation.
.
Lee’s laughter was the infectious type and she understood more now, why so many people flocked towards the beach with him. She chuckled alongside him, a shake of her head. Between their first meeting and now, Elba was speaking more than she ever had. In a way, you’d think the mask had slipped from her face. You’d think she was having a good time already, even. When he explained further, instead of apologizing profusely, a palm flew to cover her mouth, before a howl of laughter almost identical to his previous had shot out of her. She giggled behind it, though.
“It’s just like me, to ask an adopted boy where he was born. Where else can I stick my foot tonight, if not my mouth?”
