Living knowledge
“Crepuscular!” He was getting desperate now, having exhausted his list of the most obscure words. His face fell as I gave him the definition. He tried another and scowled… “How do you do that?”
“I read.” The words he dangled before me, trying to catch me out, may not be common in verbal usage, but they have cropped up often enough in books to learn their meaning through meeting them in different…

Feeling & Thinking
When she felt her pain, the ground trembled beneath her, and it not only affected her, it affected everyone else within her world. Though she was completely on her own, shapes in the dark moved all around her, revealing themselves to be monsters. The voices yelled at her to shut up and do her work that dug herself deeper into her misery. She screamed and screamed until she was aware of what she had caused.
Now the other girl, she had already felt her pain, and consequently made everyone miserable. But now she knew the time for crying was over. She had to do her best, not just for herself, but for the people she cared about. She spoke calmly, thought rationally, and focused hard on living in the moment. She made a good decision and was already planning her next action.
Neither one of these girls are happy. And while one might seem like she has it more together, neither journey is more important. Everyone has their own journey. You just have to decide what to do with your pain. Usually, you’ll feel it first, and then you’ll think it through. You’ll probably go between feeling and thinking often. But you have to deal with your journey anyway. Eventually, you will find the path you want to take.

Back seat driver
The cyclist sailed straight off of the pavement and onto the road. Thankfully, I’d seen him look over his shoulder and was already braking, otherwise it could have been messy. I drive a fair bit and have, over the years, learned, as you do, to read and anticipate what is going on around me. It doesn’t mean I’ll always get it right, it just means I am, like the vast majority of drivers, keeping…
