These findings come from Esteban Venegas, director of the Observatory at Tec de Monterrey's Institute for the Future of Education, who outlines ten trends shaping education this year â grouped below by theme.

1. Artificial Intelligence in Education
AI is at a peak of expectation, following the pattern of earlier technology cycles. Venegas identifies three main uses: personalized learning through AI academic agents, AI-powered learning analytics, and the rise of ethics, governance, and AI literacy as cross-cutting subjects. The impact is not only technical but pedagogical and cultural, with consequences still being understood.
2. Cyber-Physical Learning
A concept developed by the Institute for the Future of Education, this trend describes hybrid environments that intentionally merge physical and digital resources â telepresence robots, mixed reality, immersive simulations, and remote laboratories offering 24/7 access to digital experimentation.
3. Global Learning
Internationalization no longer depends on physical mobility. Digital platforms, open courses, and collaborative programs let students access knowledge produced anywhere in the world without leaving their classroom. The strain extends to faculty, who juggle teaching with new AI-related demands, and to administrators, who face financial pressure and constant leadership expectations amid uncertainty.
6. Revaluation of the Teaching Profession
A worsening teacher shortage is driven by burnout, unattractive working conditions, and declining social prestige. Venegas is clear that AI cannot solve this: it can support teaching but cannot replace the formative, social, and ethical role of the teacher. The real challenge is to make the profession attractive again through better conditions and institutional recognition.
