Ok quite possibly I'm just ignorant cause I'm a guy. But surely this "girls can do anything" stuff is gonna end up having the opposite effect?
Just seen an ad for an animated kids' movie about some girl being told she can't be a firefighter, generic strong minded female protag proving girls can do whatever they want.
All I can think of is some young girl watching that and thinking... "Wait... people think girls shouldn't be firefighters? If I want to do that, I'll be excluded and weird, and will have to constantly have arguments and fight about it? I think I'll pass."
Seems like it would be way more effective to just have a girl being a firefighter and good at it and everyone treating her equally... gives a positive example for young girls and young boys instead of instilling an expectation of inequality. Avoiding self fulfilling prophecy type stuff.
