The man who steps out of the car is the furthest way from that image that Adam could have guessed. He’s tall, muscular in a way that means he’s sports fit and not gym fit, wearing a cream polo shirt, chinos, boat shoes and Ray-Ban Ferrari sunglasses. He’s the perfect picture of old money prep. A picturesque southern cavalier with a tan that screams I was in the Bahamas! and not Adam’s I did a double shift outside tan. He shoulders on a go bag from the passenger seat like it’s a set of golf clubs and locks the car. He locks eyes with Ronan and smiles, a dazzling smile of perfect teeth and genuine glee, and Ronan breaks the hold Adam has on his hand and jogs down the steps to meet him. They embrace slotting in together with a familiarity that cannot be forced. Adam feels sick. “How was the drive?” “Oh you know The Pig, forever choosing the worst possible moment to break down.” They talk and walk as they approach Adam who is still standing frozen by the shock that under normal circumstances he would find this new interloper incredibly attractive. Now, his attractiveness is a burden. It was easy to pretend that this stay wasn’t going to rub Adam’s insecurities raw when Gansey was a faceless shadow on their relationship. The man looks like a fucking Yves St Laurent model. Gansey whips off his sunglasses and of course he’s stunning underneath them. Honey golden eyes, bright and full of intrigue. Adam hates him. Hate is an easy emotion for Adam to access, it burrows deep inside of him and lays in wait ready to pounce. A hangover from his genetics. Yes, Adam decides, it’s hate he’s feeling now. “Heaven’s above you must be Adam Parrish.” Even his voice is attractive. Southern in the way of old Hollywood films and senators, not in the way of trailer parks and dog fighting like Adam’s. He holds out a perfectly manicured hand. “Richard Gansey.” It also occurs to Adam right then that he assumed Gansey was some kind of nickname and didn’t think to consider he had a first name.

Im sorry it’s taking soooo long. I wrote the first draft and then didn’t really like it so I’m redrafting it.

I’m also a little sad it’s over, it’s been a lot of fun to write.
