4. ( Pension and Termination of Posts )Lord Dalhousie abolished the pensions and tenures of many states to join the British Empire. Karnataka comes first among them. After the Nawab's death in 1855 AD, Dalhousie refused to accept his successor Azam Shah as Nawab and stopped the pension due to him. After the death of the Raja of Tanjore in the same year, Dalhousie discontinued his title and pension forever. Similarly, on the death of Peshwa Bajirao II, he was getting an annual pension of Rs 8 lakh. Lord Dalhousie refused to accept his adopted son Nana Sahib as his heir and stopped pensioning him. All these princely states were later incorporated into the British Empire. Read more :-
