心生於物，死於物，機在目。
The heart is born in things and it dies in things, the mechanism is in the eyes.
Compare Laozi 12:
五色令人目盲；五音令人耳聾；五味令人口爽；馳騁田獵，令人心發狂；難得之貨，令人行妨。是以聖人為腹不為目，故去彼取此。
The five colors make one blind in the eyes. The five sounds make one deaf in the ears. The five flavors make one tasteless in the mouthRacing and hunting make one wild in the heart. Goods that are difficult to acquire make one cause damage. Therefore the sage cares for the stomach and not the eyes. That's why he discards the other and takes this. (tr. Derek Lin)
Wang Bi's comment on "therefore the sage cares for the stomach and not the eye" (critical edition and tr. by Wagner):
為腹者以物養已為目者以目役以已故聖人不為目也。
“He who is for the belly” feeds his own person with other things. “He who is for the eye” puts himself into service [of other things] with his eye. Therefore the Sage is not for the eye.
The part the line from the Yinfu Jing above is from opens with a remark about how blind people are better at hearing and deaf people better at seeing. So, stop it completely and get better at everything. Steal back the mechanism giving birth and killing the heart-mind from the eyes. Feed yourself with the (living) things, don't put yourself in their service.
Water is fluid, soft, and yielding. But water will wear away rock, which is rigid and cannot yield. As a rule, whatever is fluid, soft, and yielding will overcome whatever is rigid and hard. This is another paradox: what is soft is strong.
