Literally just here to say 'cheers' for defending Cercei in your tags. I dropped GoT in S3 but alas I couldn't escape Tumblr-watching it and the hatred Cercei got in comparison to Jaimie infuriated me. It's like they watched a different show. Some actually went as far as to claim she groomed him. A twin groomed their twin. Apparently we're just using words now with no account for what they actually mean. They compare Jaimie's attempt to be a better person with Cercei's apparent devolution, which is an interesting reverse parallel to delve into from a character analysis point, but if the whole comparison is a surface scratch for the sole purpose of drawing the conclusion that 'Cercei=bad, Jaimie=good' and 'CerceixJaimie=bad, JaimiexBrienne=good', the point had been missed by miles, the so-called analysis gets a F. Jaimie didn't have to stay at whatever the place with the Iron Throne is called (I really did drop it in S3), didn't have to face humiliation, punishment, all the while being a woman and thus inferior in the GoT society. He was never forced to have sex with or marry a woman he didn't want. He spent time away, with a person that was a actually good and honorable (I have no problem with either Brienne or BriennexJaimie). No matter what he went through during that time, he got away. Cercei, even as a queen by herself, never broke free. I by no means excuse Cercei. But Jaimie is not a better person. He's not more deserving of freedom, of a good life, of a 'good, right' relationship than Cercei. He always had more freedom than she ever did and he chose to be with her, to start and maintain his relationship with her, when he had other options. His reasons for the choices he made were his own, but he had a choice and that's big. It's really really big that he could potentially just walk away. Just do something different, be with whoever he wanted. Cercei never did. You're not actually free to choose when you have to do it in secret.
Cercei actually deserved to have Jaimie by her side. She got punished for their relationship. She suffered losing all their children. And in the end, no matter how they may try to spin it out frame it, Jaimie loved Cercei. It wasn't one-sided. And they were always equals in maturity. They've been together for years and I hardly think either one of them could have been the bad twin seducing the good twin when they got together.
Bet you did not see this ridiculously long ask coming when you defended Cercei in this context. It's just so rare to see anyone not frame her as some kind of predator or evil influence in her relationship with Jaimie. The rant just came out. Thanks for listening!
